of Gabriel VERNATTI

My interest in this Vernatti family arose mainly because of their connection by marriage with the TOLAT / TOLLET family of Westminster. I had hoped that by researching this family further that I might learn more about the TOLLETS; in this sense I was unsuccessful, but no research is ever wasted and my findings are recorded below for the benefit of others. I include my sources at the end; one of these in particular, Nieuw Nederlandsch Biografisch Woordenbock, contains more details of the Vernattis than I have included below, but (as may be gathered from the title) it is written in Dutch.

(In his will*13, John TOLAT / TOLLET refers to his "sister Vernatti" and to his "kinswoman Diana Vernatti" and his "kinswoman Elizabeth Vernatti". In their own wills from the early 18th century, two of John Tolat's daughters refer to their "cousins" Orlando BRIDGMAN and Mrs Elizabeth JESSOP. Biographical information about William BRIDGMAN, the husband of Diana Vernatti, names her father as Peter Vernatti and his (William's) brother in law as Philibert Vernatti. Peter Vernatti's will (1648) names his wife as Elizabeth and a brother as Maximilian. Gabriel Vernatti's will (1655) refers to his "cousins" Diana & Elizabeth Vernatti, daughters of his brother Peter. However, the assumptions I have made about this family based on this information may not be correct; the father Peter may not be Pieter born 1601, and/or the will I have found may not relate to this Peter. Elizabeth's given age on her marriage licence, although obviously not wholly accurate as she was born before her uncle died in 1655, does raise questions.)

brother-in-law named Barnay Reymes*1, so I am speculating that his wife was
surnamed Reymes. I am also speculating for the same reason that
this Anthony was father of Nathaniel Reymes VERNATTI (V1.5.1)
below. When Anthony died in 1649, the admon was granted to his
brother Abraham, so probably his wife - if he was married - had
died before him.)
