NOTES

The birth details of the above children, and the date of death for Mary SILVER née GALLEHAWK (So29), are taken from a page of Silver family events photocopied from a small family bible or similar. It is not clear when these details were recorded, but the entries shown above all appear to have been made in the same hand, probably at the same time, and may perhaps have been written by William SILVER (So28), possibly around the time general registration of births, marriages and deaths was introduced. However, although most of the entries are consistent with the corresponding baptism or burial records, there are a couple of discrepancies.

I have so far been unable to find any record of exactly when William SILVER (So28) and his son Henry Anthony emigrated, but I have found a record of his son William arriving in New York from London on 21 Apr 1845. William was given as a mechanic aged 26, and with him were Caroline SILVER aged 26 and Thomas SILVER aged 9m. It appears that William (junior) abandoned his first wife and their children at some stage before he emigrated to the US, and although I have not found any record of his marriage to Caroline NEWMAN, I do have a birth certificate for their son Thomas William, born 2 Jun 1844 in Folkestone, which records his parents as if they were married.
