Biography

Drummer
from "From The Banks Of The Oklawaha" (p.38)

The love of freedom and his country was instilled in his children by William [Sentelle]. Close by [William's grave in the Sentelle Cemetery by Big Willow Creek] is the grave of Richard, youngest son of William and Elizabeth who was born in Edgefield District before he was brought as a small child to Jeter Mountain [in Henderson County NC]. His gravestone reads, "Richard Sentle, Drummer - Ewings Regiment, N.C. Militia, War of 1812, born Feb 14, 1797 Died June 27, 1883". Richard was only fifteen years old when he marched away to war as a drummer boy to rally the soldiers of Andrew Jackson during the heat of battle."
