• Letter: From Kathryn (Kitty) to her sister, Gert, 24 Jul 1924, Grand Ledge, Eaton, Michigan, USA. 12
Dear Gert,

My little beloved adorable sister. Why don't you write me every day. I didn't get one letter addressed to me yet since I was here and I wish I was home so bad. I'm sending Elizabeth two bracelets but don't tell her because she is to send my knickers in a hurry and tell her if they can't get here by Wednesday not to send them at all.

Will you write me and I'll write you.

Well I must close.

Your Loving Darling Respectful Sister
/s/ Kitty

P.S. I wish I was home so bad. They're moving now.
I met Miss Hazel Stacum and she is engaged to a man. She sure is a pill. When she walks she makes her hips wiggle and wears long earrings and has her hair bobbed. She looks like this...

• Degree: Physical Education from Chicago Normal School: Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA.

• Social Security Number: 353-16-6615, Bef 1951, , , Illinois, USA. 13

• Letter: From Gert to her niece, Esther, 10 May 1970, Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA. 14
Dear Esther,

Here is the information you are looking for. I wrote Cliff and he went to the cemetery for them. Is there anything I can help with? Just let me know.

I hope your back is better and will continue to be. It is very hard to keep going with an ailment like that.

We hope to get up for Ann's [Melegari] wedding. My arthritis has been a mess and I am pretty much grounded but Doctor thinks I'll improve as the weather improves. John and Mary hope to go if conditions are right for him.

So I hope all the rumors I'm hearing aren't just idle chatter. I was not aware there was trouble after your Dad's death but I should hope that you and Martha are not going to boycott the wedding. Aunt Biz is upset and also Aunt Polly and Aunt Biz seems to think that because your mother and I were so close that I'm the one to open my mouth.

I know Ruth can be difficult and Lou can be pompous and Ann is ? But I would ask you both to remember there are good points too. Above all you are all family and there can be a lot more lost in being nasty than not. So, for what it is worth, I'm suggesting you both remember that it was Ruth that carried much of the burden when things didn't go right with your mother and dad. And she was never anything but loyal.

I haven't come to writing this without reservations and if I've stepped out of line I'm sorry. So I hope I'm wrong and I hope it is all being silly rumor and I'll see you there.

If not, I still remain your loving Aunt,

Gert

YEP! Sometimes I wonder where I'm at........My Mom & Dad were staunch Democrats, as you probably remember. Dad worked for the City of Chicago his entire life. Mom was a Precinct Captain, Civil Defense Warden and a Ward Committee Woman in the biggest ward (13th) in the state of Illinois.

I guess........ maybe you have to stray from the nest to to see the sunshine, on the other side of the tracks.

Best Regards! Mary and I are in Milwaukee. Will be headed South next week. Been gone for more than a month, and will take our leisure time headed home, hurricanes permitting. All is well.......

Our son Bill is looking at retirement from the fire department next year. Plans are to buy & cruise the Great Lakes and the Carri bean on a large yacht (52ft.) until he tires of it. Three Grandsons attending U of W. Oldest one in Oshkosh and the twins in Milwaukee. Keeps my bank account revolving.

And so it goes........

John

Thanks for the family update. Always nice to know what is going on and great to hear from you.

I do remember about your mom and dad also heard that my dad did some drinking and tearing around after my brother died at age 7 including a girl friend in Crivitz and that your Mom rode the train to Crivitz and found the young lady and told her to stay out of Marinette or she would level her. to the ground..

Always thought that was very special to my Mom and our family...

Fritz
