Scherer, 71, died Monday, Sept. 26, at his home, 210 Scherer Ave., where he was born and raised. He suffered a paralytic stroke eleven weeks ago, never recovering. Funeral services were held Wednesday Afternoon at 2 o'clock from St. Joseph's Catholic church with the Rev. Fr. L.C. Becker officiating. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were John VanGaal, Theodore Meeuwsen, Joseph Keefe, Patrick Nagel, John and Antone Merline. Jacob Scherer was born Nov 12, 1861 in Oconto. On Feb. 26, 1900 at St. Joseph's Catholic church he married Edith Kehl. Mr. Scherer was a retired mechanic. For 33 years he was a fireman, served as an alderman for 12 years and was a supervisor for eight years. The survivors are the widow; three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. A.E. Whittaker, Mrs. D.T. Keefe and Miss Etta Scherer, all of Oconto; John of Green Bay and Antone of Marinette. The out-of-town attendants at the funeral were: Fr. A.M. Keefe, DePere; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kehl, son and daughter, Green Bay; Jack Kehl and Florine Schroder, Manitowoc; Mr. and Mrs. John Scherer, Antone Scherer, Mrs. F.H. Jaeger, Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Jaeger, Mrs. Frank Lindsay, Mrs. T.J. Sander and son, and Mrs. Wm. Ingram of Marinette; Miss Elizabeth Scherer of Chicago, Joseph Melchoir and son Orton of Walace, Mich. Jacob married Edith Kehl, daughter of John Kehl and Amelia Hambach, on 26 Feb 1900 in Oconto, Oconto, Wisconsin, USA.1 (Edith Kehl was born on 07 Feb 1877 in Manitowoc, Manitowoc, Wisconsin, USA,18 19 died on 06 Jun 1951 in Oconto, Oconto, Wisconsin, USA 20 21 and was buried on 11 Jun 1951 in Oconto, Oconto, Wisconsin, USA 22 23.) The cause of her death was Cerebral hemorrhage.8
