bullet  Research Notes:

On the subject of Peter's "adopted" daughter Margaret. Your site has "Margaret married John Jansen about 1855 in Kaukauna." Since Margaret was living in Peter's home for the 1855 census but not the 1860 census, the "about 1855" marriage date seems reasonable. (I did not find a John Jansen in the 1860 census.)

Thus, the marriage date in the quote on Margaret Street -- "Margaret Diedrich was the oldest daughter of Peter Diedrich. She married John Jansen, Sr. and died on July 15, 1886, shortly after her marriage." - is probably wrong. (In 1886 she would have been 46.)

Using 1886 as death date is also problematic since (per write up on Jansen and the mill) he had 3 wives.

Further, if she was John Jansen's first wife, they had at least one child: Henry (again per mill write up).

Just looked at the 1860 census again and there she is; "Margaret 19 Female Maid born Prussia."

Of course, this is also the census which lists "Gabriel 17 Farmer born Wisconsin" which we think is probably supposed to be Gertrude. 5
