Email Me James was first discovered as a passenger on Ocean Chief which sailed from Liverpool, England in 1855 arriving at Hobart in Tasmania, Australia in January 1856. He was aged 35 and with wife Eliza who was aged 21. Various Directories etc list James as living in Londavra, Waratah and Fingal in Tasmania. James and Eliza had nine children - including our John Christian who was born 1866. James died in Mersey, Tasmania 17 Feb 1897. Does anyone know where he was born or where he and Eliza married? Eliza was first discovered as a passenger on Ocean Chief which sailed from Liverpool, England in 1855 arriving at Hobart in Tasmania, Australia in January 1856. She was aged 21 and with husband James who was aged 35. Other than being listed as the mother of her children in the Tasmanian Pioneer Register, there is no mention of her. Her death is not recorded in the Pioneer Register, nor is her name on the cemetery lists I have consulted. Does anyone know where she was born, married or died? FOUND We've been lucky enough to find James & Eliza. Searches on 1837online.com turned up a James RANDALL marrying an Eliza MOSS in Enstone, Oxfordshire. Subsequent searching found they married 23rd October 1855 - James aged 30yrs & Eliza 21yrs. He was from Neat Enstone and she Chipping Norton. James was the son of George (a labourer) and Eliza the daughter of Thomas (also a labourer). George was married at St Marylebone, LND, ENG on 11 Dec 1870. Shipping records and civil records indicate he was born in Kent, England. Where? John is proving to be a huge problem! We have traced him as follows: 1874: Marr at home of Mr A.J. ORDISH, Matarawa of John (aged 34) & Alice (aged 21). John's occ = labourer. John length of residence = 6yrs; Alice length of residence = 1 month. 1877: Birth of dau Mary Ann at Te Whiti, Masterton,WRP, NZ. Father: John (aged 39 - maybe 37?? bn Wandsworth, SRY, ENG) & Mother: Alice (aged 23, bn MDX, ENG - nee MAHON(E)Y). 1896 Electoral Roll (Pahiatua) 1897: Marr of dau Mary Ann to George Albert BOAKES. Anyone know about his birth, when he arrived NZ or his death? According to her marriage certificate Alice was born in Middlesex, ENG around 1853. I have no death date for her either - John & Alice appear to have disappeared??? FOUND Now this one is an awesome surprise. Finally tracked Alice down! She arrived in NZ August 1874 on Conflict which sailed from London, England. She was said to be 18yrs old and was married only a couple of months after arriving here. Good old 1837online.com provided me with a birth record for her in 1855 - born in Chelsea! Am awaiting the certificate. Do you know how many Frank TAYLORs there are born around 1885 in England?! Frank was the son of Frank George TAYLOR and there is talk that the family could have come from Kent originally. Frank married Edith Lilian ALSOP in 1912, but died around 1918 in the flu epidemic. Anyone seen anything of him?
