Wellenstein, Luxembourg (May 1997)

This photo was taken from the vineyards above Wellenstein. As you can see, the vines are not yet greened out in the month of May. Wellenstein is the ancestral village of the Schmit family. My great-grandfather, Anton Schmit, who immigrated to America in 1882, was born there in 1833. The Schmit line has been traced back to the late 1600s in Wellenstein.

My great-grandmother, Elizabeth (Goergen) Schmit was baptised in this Catholic Church in Kreuzweiler, Germany. Kreuzweiler is about a half mile from Schloss Thorn.

Rodenhoff, Belgium Entering Rodenhoff, Belgium, the birthplace of my great-grandfather, Michael Morson. Rodenhoff is nothing more than a cluster of three farms. It is in the Luxembourg Province of Belgium, which was part of Luxembourg until 1839.
