The services were conducted at 1:30 o'clock by his pastor, the Rev. George H. Berkheimer, Arendtsville. Interment was made at Fairview cemetery, Arendtsville.
Services at the grave were conducted by the members of the Arendtsville lodge of the Knights of Pythias of which Mr. Carbaugh was a charter member. Members of the organization served as pallbearers. They were M. E. Stover, J. B. Bushey, D. C. Knouse, C. D. Arendt, Harry W. Wert and Ernest Bushman.

J. F. Carbaugh
John Franklin Carbaugh, 86, a retired carpenter and painter and former Franklin township assessor, died suddenly at his home in Franklin township, between Arendtsville and Cashtown Thursday evening about 10 o'clock. A heart condition caused death.
Mr. Carbaugh had been in failing health for the last several years but on Thursday he had been about the home in apparently his usual state of health. He had walked from the house about 9:45 o'clock for a drink of water before retiring. He returned to the kitchen of the home and sat in a chair. Mrs. Carbaugh, who was on the second floor of the home at the time, heard an unusual sound and on coming to the kitchen found her husband unconscious in the chair. A physician was summoned but Mr. Carbaugh had died before medical aid arrived.
A native of Franklin township, Mr. Carbaugh had lived all his life there. He was the last survivor of the family of John and Sally (Arendt) Carbaugh.
On September 7, 1936, Mr. Carbaugh and his wife, the former Annie M. Orner, observed their sixty-fourth wedding anniversary.
Mr. Carbaugh had a clear recollection of incidents connected with the battle of Gettysburg and remembered walking over the battlefield on July 4, 1863, with his father and seeing numbers of dead and wounded soldiers. Confederate soldiers occupied the Carbaugh home during a part of the battle.
A life-long democrat, the deceased served for three terms as assessor of his native township.
He was a charter member of the Arendtsville lodge of the Knights of Pythias. One other charter member survives.
Mr. Carbaugh belonged to the Lutheran church at Arendtsville and was a member of the Cashtown fire company.
Surviving are his widow and eight children: Mrs. R. R. Criswell, Arendtsville; Mrs. O. C. Walter, Gettysburg; Mrs. Guy Keller, McKnightstown; George A. Carbaugh, Cashtown; Arbin L. Carbaugh, Cashtown; Allen J. Carbaugh, Arendtsville; Ernest F. Carbaugh, Cashtown and Paul O. Carbaugh, at home.
Funeral services from the late home Sunday afternoon 1:30 o'clock to be conducted by his pastor, the Rev. George H. Berkheimer, Arendtsville. Interment at Fairview cemetery in Arendtsville.

Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Carbaugh, who reside between Arendtsville and Cashtown will celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of their wedding Saturday.
Mr. Carbaugh, aged 85 years, and Mrs. Carbaugh, 77 years of age, were married on September 7, 1875. She was a daughter of Jonas and Amelia Orner.
The couple was born and has always resided in Adams county. After their marriage Mr. Carbaugh, who had been actively engaged as a carpenter until about two years ago, built his home and has resided with his wife there ever since.
The anniversary will be passed quietly by the Carbaughs on Saturday, but on Sunday they will be the guests of thier son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. O.C. Walter, 38 North Franklin street, at a small celebration.
The couple has eight children living in Adams county. They are, in addition to Mrs. Walter, as follow:
George A. Carbaugh and Arbin L. Carbaugh, both of Cashtown; Mrs. Reynolds Criswell and Allen J. Carbuagh, both of Arendtville; Mrs. Guy Heller, McKnightstown, and Paul O. Carbaugh, at home.

The Gettysburg Times - Gettysburg, PA - 1958-02-10 pg 01

"George A Carbaugh, 81, Cashtown, died near his home Saturday afternoon at 1:00. Dr. C G Crist, Adams county coroner, attributed the death to a coronary occlusion.
Mr. Carbaugh, who resided with a brother, Arbin Carbaugh, on High St. in Cashtown, had suffered from a heart condition for some time, but appeared in good health Saturday and after eating his noon meal had gone to Bream's store in Cashtown to purchase some tobacco and other articles.
He was enroute home from the store when he collapsed while walking past the home of Mr. And Mrs. Raymond Hossler, about two doors from the home of his brother. Mr. And Mrs. Hossler assisted him into their home but death occurred before a physician could be summoned.
A native of Franklin Township, he was a son of the late J Franklin and Anne M (Orner) Carbaugh
He had been a paper hanger and painter most of his life and was a member of Flohr's Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Cashtown Fire Co. and had been treasurer of that organization for 30 years. He had also served on the election board in Franklin township, for a number of terms.
His wife, the former Ada Deardorff, died in 1950.
Surviving are these brothers and sisters; Arbin L, Cashtown, with whom he had resided; Mrs. Reynolds Criswell, Arendtsville; Albin J, Arendtsville, Mrs. Edna Walter, Gettysburg; Ernest F Carbaugh, Cashtown; Mrs. Mary Keller, Biglerville R 2 and Paul O Carbaugh, Biglerville R 2.
