ZEELAND (Special) — Mrs. Mattie Commissaris, 76, widow of Arend Commissaris, formerly of Burnips, died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Brummel at 3115 Birchwood Ave., S.W., Grand Rapids, this morning following a lingering illness.
Surviving besides Mrs. Brummel are a son, Abram Commissaris of Dunningville; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one brother, Arend Bredeweg of Dutton; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Bredesveg of Holland.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Maple Hill United Brethren Church. Relatives will meet at the church at 1:15 p.m. Burial will be in Burnips Cemetery. The body will be taken from Yntema Funeral Home to the Brummel residence Tuesday morning where friends and relatives may call.

"Mattie" Aaltje Bredeweg and Arend Commissaris were married on 10 Feb 1897 in Ottawa County, MI. Mr. and Mrs. Arend Commissaris observed their 52nd wedding anniversary on Feb. 10 quietly in their home here. Mr. Commissaris is ill. On Saturday evening a surprise anniversary party was held and their children, Mr, and Mrs. Bert Brummel of Grand Rapids and Mr. and Mrs. Abo Commissaris of Burnips attended.
