MRS. JENNIE SMALLIDGE

Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Smallidge will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Dean chapel, with the Rev. H.A.Blanning of the First Congregational church officiating. Burial will be in Crystal Springs cemetery. Mrs. Smallidge died Saturday morning at her farm home on Smallidge avenue, Benton township, where she had resided for the past 60 years. Her death followed a long illness.

Mrs. Jennie Smallidge, 90, died at 10:15 a. m. today at her farm home on Smallidge ave., Benton township, where she had resided for the past 60 years She had been ill for the past two years and was confined to her bed for the past two weeks. Born Jan. 3, 1859, at Waupun, Wis, she was married to the late George Smallidge in Wisconsin in 1887. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1935.
Survivors include three sons, Harry Smallidge of Benton Harbor, Floyd Smallidge of Sister Lakes and Roy Smallidge of Benton township; a daughter, Mrs. Harry Phillips, at home, a step-son, Ned Smallidge, Buchanan; a step-daughter, Miss Marian Carlisle, Elgin, Ill; a brother, John Scheuers, Waupun, Wis, and two grandchildren.
The casket bearing the body is at the Dean chapel, where friends may call. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Petition for the appointment of an admimstrator for the estate of Jennie Smallidge, a resident of Benton township who died on April 30, 1949, was filed in probate court today. The estate is valued at $3,500 in real estate and the heirs include her children, Harry, Floyd and Roy Smallidge and Rose Phillips, all of Benton Harbor.

FATHER E.J. SMALLIDGE DIES AT BENTON HARBOR

Funeral rites were held Monday afternoon at the Dean mortuary in Benton Harbor, for the late George H. Smallidge, father of E.J.Smallidge, well known Pipestone township farmer. burial took place in Crystal Springs cemetery. Mr. Smallidge , who was 83 years old, died Thursday evening, the victim of a heart attack. He was born in Bath, N.Y., Oct.30,1851, moved to Wisconsin at 14 and in 1874 was married to Miss Diantha Baxter, who died at Fox Lake, Wis. in 1885. Surviving children are Mrs. Marian Carlisle of Chicago and E.J. Smallidge of Eau Claire. In March 1888, the deceased married a second time to Miss Jennie Scheuers at Fox Lake and came to Benton Harbor the same year. I conclude from your letter of Dec 26 1898 that we must have sp???d from the same source I have herd my Father tell about the same story about a man by the name of Smallidge giveing his youngest son as hostage for himself & that son came to America I was in York state on a visit some 12 years ago & was talking with one of my cousins about our ancestors & he had a story from his Father that the said Smallidge that was given as hostage for his father had too sons One of them staid in the East & the other went West that is it was west too them at that time he went into York State or more properly into New York State I do not know everything very definit farther back than my Grandfather he had William Henery Charles Jerome & George for sons & Saloma & Smantha for Daughters All dead except Saloma of corse they are all Uncles & Aunts to me except Henery who is my father William was a Hotell keeper in Detroyt Mich & his family are all there yet the rest of them are all still in N.Y. Except one cousin by the name of Frank who went to Minn some six or eight years ago the last I herd from him he was hurt I think with a binder 30 years ago My mother with my brother sister & myself went to Wis to her Uncles near Beaver Dam my sister died My brother & Myself have ben in the west since I did live near Durand Peppin Co Wis three years & used to go to Loake City Reeds & Waubashan quite often have ben out into the state as far as Plainview My brother is a Baptist Minister is preaching in this State now I have a family of 5 boys & 4 girls living I lost one little girl 9 years ago I am living with my second wife I gess I have given quite a family History I would like it very much if I could see you & have a talk with you I gess I can talk better than I can write My wife says I would talk evey ones arm off Eneyway now if ever you or eney of your folks should come to Chicago it will cost you no more to run over & see me than it would to stay in Chicago one Night especially in the summer when the boats run I live too miles from the G&M steam boat dock out on the Tarritorial Rode

PS the only one by the name of Smallidge that we ever heard of except our one family untill now was aman that found my Uncle Charles on an Oil Boat in Buffalow N.Y. When he was in the Oil business in Penn - & that was quite a good meny years ago.

Funeral services for Harry Smallidge, 76, of 372 Linden Court, Benton Harbor, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Reiser funeral home. The Rev. Ellis Marshburn of the First Presbyterian church will officiate. burial will be in Crystal Springs cemetery. Mr. Smallidge died Sunday night in the Berrien County Hospital, Berrien Center. GARRY G. SMALLIDGE

Following one years illness, Garry G. Smallidge, 58, of Benton Township, died at 9 a.m. wednesday while enroute to Mercy hospital. He was born on March 07,1890, in Benton Township, a son of the late George Smallidge and Mrs. Jennie Smallidge, who survives. Other survivors are a sister, Mrs Harry Phillips and three brothers Harry, Floyd and Roy, all of Benton Township. He served with the 339th infantry division fighting in Russia in World War I and was a member of the D.A.V. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Kerlikowski chapel and burial will be in Soldiers park in Riverview cemetery. He was buried on 18 Sep 1948 in Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph, Berrien, MI.

Sister Lakes Man Finds Stolen Property In B. H. Yard
Floyd Smallidge. Napier Road,Sister Lakes was successful in tracking down some junk and equipment stolen from his barn Monday night, according to Benton Harbor police. Smallidge told Officer Howard Willming that, when he discovered three heating stoves and several wheels and tires had been taken from his barn, he decided to check local junkyards, and recognized his property at the Martin Brothers scrap yard. 239 Hinkley street.
Police accompanied Smallidge to the scrap yard, where they got the name of the person who allegedly sold the junk for S18.44. Police advised Martin Brothers officials to hold on to the junk and stop payment on the check. Smallidge was advised to see the Paw Paw judge about a warrant for the suspect.
The property was valued at $100.

CHESTER A. SMALLIDGE

Chester A. Smallidge, 51, Smallidge avenue farmer and veteran of World War I, died at 1:26 p.m. on Monday at Mercy hospital. His death ended an illness dating back to 1940. Of that time he had been bedfast only the past six weeks. Unmarried, Mr. Smallidge resided with his mother, Mrs. Jennie Smallidge. In addition to his mother he leaves four brothers, Harry, Garry, and Roy, in Benton Harbor and Floyd at Sister Lakes; one sister Mrs. Rose Phillips, Benton Harbor; and a half-brother and half-sister. Ned Smallidge, Buchanen, and Mrs. Marion Carlisle, Elgin, Illinois. There also are several nieces and nephews. Mr. Smallidge served as an engineer, second class, in the Navy during Worl War I and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 17. He was also a member of Lodge No.298, Free and Accepted Masons. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Dean chapel with the First Congregational Minister the Rev. H.A.Blanning, in charge. Burial will be in Crystal Springs cemetery where the Masons will conduct their ritual. The Disable Americans Veterans and auxiliary will attend the funeral rites. Members are requested to assemble at the Dean chapel at 1:30p.m. He was buried on 24 Sep 1947 in Crystal Springs Cemetery, Benton Township, Berrien, MI.
