Marriages:  The Acadian Recorder reports these in a limited manner, but they originate throughout the Province.  Often the dates found in this section and the Deaths section contain two references of inst. (or instant) and ult. (or ultimo).  These refer to the month in which the date occured. Inst. or instant means the date is in the current month. Ult. or ultimo means the date given is in the previous month.

Deaths:  Again these originate throughout the Province, and sometimes are International.

Ship News:  The news typically lists ship arrivals and departures, usually by giving ship name, master, and home port or last port sailed from.  Sometimes there are also passengers lists, information of wrecks etc which are reported under this section as well. If you see the symbol  "&.c" in the texts,  this was the old form of "etc".

Estate Notices:  These were advertisements placed when someone died announcing that claims against and owed to the estate had to be settled within a certain time period.  This section is a compliment to the Deaths section as an additional source. This section will be done once every few months. Since they often ran the same ad for 2 years, the list usually stays the same for a long period of time.  Sources here are not only the name of the deceased, but also those who administered the estate, usually other family members.  The complete text is not done.  This is just a list containing estate owner, administrator(s) and the date the original notice was placed (if available).

Advertisers:  Again this section is a list of names, with type of business and location if available.  Real estate sales will also
appear in this section, whether private or public/sherrif auction.  This section and the next are not being included yet, but will be eventually added in.

SHIP NEWS - Port of Halifax

Tuesday May 20 arr.
His Majesty's ship Pactolus, Capt. Dobbie  11 days from Bermuda - HMS Leander, Rear Admiral Sir David Milne G.C.B., Capt. Chatham had arrived at Bermuda from Portsmouth and would sail for Halifax on or about the 1st June. Passengers on the Pactolus: His Excellency Major General Smyth Lieutenant Governor of the Province of New Brunswick, his Lady and suite; Lieut. Sparks R.E. and family, and Edward M'Swinney Esq.
Sailed - Francis-Freeling packet with the mails for Falmouth.

Wednesday May 21 arr.
brig Antarus, Atkinson - Newcastle 51 days.
sch. Sally, Hawbolt - New York.
Sch. Four Sons, Watson - from Norfolk. Extract from the log-book of the sch. Four Sons: "Hampton Roads Monday May 5 heard a great report;  May 9 - was informed that the Buenos Ayrean Privateer Tantavelle had blown up the proceeded day while at anchor on the Shoe [?]. She left Norfolk only the evening before in company with a brig of 18 guns. - Passed the wreck on the 7th: her bowsprit and foremast just above water; did not hear what number of the crew had perished:  on leaving Norfolk she had upwards of 100 men on board."

brig Waterloo, Jones  from Liverpool N.S.

Friday May 23 arr.
sch. Britannia  11 days from Boston - cargo flour, meal &c. to Messrs. Fillis & Perkins.
sch. Lavina, Brown  30 days from Cork - an assorted cargo to Mr. David Hare and others.
brig Juno  40 days from Newcastle.
transport brig Mendoser  34 days from London. Passengers - Messrs Harvey and Seede Commisariat Dept.  and Mr. Jones His Majesty's Careening Yard.

H.M.S. Forth, Rear Admiral Griffith, Capt. John Louis, Bart. sailed from Bermuda for Portsmouth 11th inst.
The sch. Catharine from hence arr. at Boston in 12 days and Four Sons, Kelly in four days.
The brigs Waterloo and Admiral Griffith, and schrs Alert, Bevidera, Antelop, Prosperity, Jane & Maria and Deborah Lucy from Windsor have arrived at Boston,  and the William at New York.
The brig Prince Regent from Jamaica to Quebec was spoken with May 5.
The brig Bulwark for Douglas; schrs Julie and Desire-Ann for Windsor, and Olive for  Cumberland  cleared at Boston 9th inst.
