Marriages:  The Acadian Recorder reports these in a limited manner, but they originate throughout the Province.  Often the dates found in this section and the Deaths section contain two references of inst. (or instant) and ult. (or ultimo).  These refer to the month in which the date occured. Inst. or instant means the date is in the current month. Ult. or ultimo means the date given is in the previous month.

Deaths:  Again these originate throughout the Province, and sometimes are International.

Ship News:  The news typically lists ship arrivals and departures, usually by giving ship name, master, and home port or last port sailed from.  Sometimes there are also passengers lists, information of wrecks etc which are reported under this section as well. If you see the symbol  "&.c" in the texts,  this was the old form of "etc".

Estate Notices:  These were advertisements placed when someone died announcing that claims against and owed to the estate had to be settled within a certain time period.  This section is a compliment to the Deaths section as an additional source. This section will be done once every few months. Since they often ran the same ad for 2 years, the list usually stays the same for a long period of time.  Sources here are not only the name of the deceased, but also those who administered the estate, usually other family members.  The complete text is not done.  This is just a list containing estate owner, administrator(s) and the date the original notice was placed (if available).

Advertisers:  Again this section is a list of names, with type of business and location if available.  Real estate sales will also
appear in this section, whether private or public/sherrif auction.  This section and the next are not being included yet, but will be eventually added in.

DEATHS


SHIP NEWS - Port of Halifax

Tuesday April 8 arr.
His Majesty's store ship Hydra  21 days from Grenada with a detachment of the 15th Regiment under the command of Lt. Col. Davidson. The Hydra will return to Grenada immediately for the purpose of bringing to this place the remaining Companies of the above Regiment.

Wednesday April 9 arr.
sch. James  9 days from Boston - cargo flour, corn, &c. to Messrs Collins & Allison - Sailed in co. with sch. Matilda of this port. The sch. Four Sons, Kelly  arrived at Boston the 1st inst. from hence.

Thursday April 10 arr.
His Majesty's brig Fly,  Capt. Baldwin  22 days from Barbados - She sailed from England the 30th Jan. and brings papers to the 27th of that month.

Saturday morning April 12 arr.
sch. Rover,  Allan  12 days from Philadelphia - cargo flour &c. to Mr. Wm. Verge and the master. - Left no N.S. or N.B. vessels. The sch. Harriet, Leggett arrived at Norfolk from hence 10 days; - a ship arrived at Charleston S.C. with specie and potatoes from Liverpool Eng. - Flour had fallen in England and great losses sustained on cargoes recently sold.
A sch. from Jamaica belonging to Messrs Loveland & Hawthorn is beating up the harbour.

brig Sally,  Rumford,  New York.
sch. Acadian,  Cross,  West Indies.
sch. Countess Dalhousie,  Cocken,  British West Indies.

The Sally Ann, Hawbolt of this place sailed from Norfolk for Kingston Jam. on the 20th February.

The Perseverance,  Rowland  also of this place was to sail from Grenada for Norfolk on the 22d ult.  Markets at Grenada onn the 18th March were very bad. The cargo of a brig belonging to St. John N.B. in which Mr. Baflow of that place was concerned, had been sold in parts as low as 1 1/2 dols. pr. quintal for codfish; it was hoped that 2 1/2 might be obtained for the remainder.

The sch. Morning Star,  Sellers  from Lunenburg arrived at Baltimore 19th ult.
