1774, William Gardner to George Gardner, Halifax Co., NC

This Indenture made this fifteenth day of July in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred seventy & four. Between William Gardner of the County of Halifax in the Province of North Carolina and George Gardner of the County and Province aforesaid. Witnesseth that the said William Gardner for and in consideration of the sum of twenty pounds Virginia currency to him in hand paid by the said George Gardner the receipt whereof the said William Gardner doth acknowledge hath granted bargained & sold aliened enfeoffed released and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell alien enfeoff release and confirm unto the said George Gardner his heirs and assigns for ever all tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County aforesaid containing forty nine acres and bounded as follows. (to wit) Beginning at Turkey oak in Edmundson Road thence N. 20 Pole to a red oak in the Branch thence down the branch to a Maple thence S. 30 E. 28 pole to a red oak thence E. 9 pole to a white oak on the Chapple road thence along the said road to Joseph Edmundsons road then along the said Road to the beginning and also the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders, rents and profits thereof. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with the appurtenances unto the said George Gardner his heirs and assigns for ever and the said William Gardner for himself his heirs executor and administrators doth covenant and grant the said George Gardner his heirs and assigns for ever. That the said William Gardner and his heirs the said tract or parcel of land and every part thereof against him and his heirs and against all and every other person and persons and all claims and charges whatsoever to the said George Gardner his heirs and assigns will warrant and forever defend. In Witness whereof the said William Gardner hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written =.

1785, Holman Southall to George Gardner, Halifax Co., NC

Halifax County. Know all men by these presents, That I Holman Southall of the County afore said & the state of North Carolina planter for & in consideration of the sum of one hundred and pounds apiece to me in hand paid by George Gardner of the County & State aforesd. The receipt whereof I do acknowledge myself fully satisfied and paid have given…… granted and do by these presents give grant bargain & sell in fair & open market unto the said George Gardner to him his heirs & assigns forever two negroes named Dinah & Lucy which said negroes I myself my heirs & assigns do hereby warrant and forever defend from the lawfull title challenge or demand of any person or persons whatsoever unto the said George Gardner his heirs & assigns forever. In Witness whereof I do hereby set my hand & seal this 15th day of August one thousand seven hundred and eighty. 1786, George Gardner to Pryor Gardner, Nash Co., NC

This Indenture made on the 14th day of March in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty six between George Gardner of the County of Nash and state of North Carolina of the one part and Pryor Gardner of the County of Halifax and State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that I, the said George Gardner for and in consideration of the sum of seventy one Pound five shillings Virginia money part to him in hand Paid, the receipt whereof is fully acknowledged, the sd. George Gardner have given, granted, bargained, and sold, aliened, assigned & confirmed and by these Presents doth give, grant, bargain & sell aliened enfeoffed & confirm unto him the Sd. Pryor Gardner his heirs and assigns a Certain Tract or Parcel of Land situate lying and being in the County of Nash, & State aforesaid and bounded as followeth (To wit) beginning at a small black oak in the Said George Gardners line near the plantation thence south 205 poles to a Corner White Oak thence West 338 poles to a Corner black Jack thence North 236 poles to a Comer red oak thence east 120 poles to a Corner White Oak in the white oak branch. Thence East a few degrees to the South along George Gardners line to the first Station Containing 475 acres be the same more or less. To have and To hold the Said Land To the Said Pryor Gardner his heirs and assigns and to his or Their own Proper use, benefit, and behoof. Together with all the Heriditaments and appurtanances thereto Belonging or in any way appurtaining and the Reversion & Revisions, Remainder & Remainders unto and services of the Said Premises and every Part thereof to him the Said Pryor Gardner, his heirs and assigns, the said George Gardner and his heirs & assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend. In witness whereof the Said George Gardner have hereunto set his hand & affixed his Seal the day and year first above Written.

1789, George Gardner to William Duberry, Halifax Co., NC

This Indenture made the fifth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty nine between George Gardner of the County of Halifax & state of No. Carolina of the one part & Wm Duberry of the aforesaid County & state of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said George Gardner, for and in consideration of one hundred & ten pounds, Virginia money, to him in hand paid by the said Wm Duberry, the receipt whereof, the said George Gardner hath granted, bargained, sold, aliened & confirmed unto the sd. Wm Duberry his heirs & assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land, lying & being in the county of Halifax & state aforesaid. (Towit) Beginning at a turkey oak standing on Edmundsons road, thence running So. 40 ds. Et. 174 ps. to a comer white oak then East 11 pole to a comer poplar, then along Hailes line So. 89 ds. Et. 228 pole to a comer white oak then No.86 ds. Et. 18 pole to a stump and oak sapling on the aforesaid Road then running up the variants Course of said road to Chappels Road, then running up Chappels Road No.20 ds. Wt. 116 pole to a white oak, then No.88 ds. Wt. 11 pole to a red oak, then No.30 ds. Wt. 28 pole to a poplar & maples standing in Copelands spring Branch then running up the sd. Branch to a red oak then So. 4 ds. Et. To the beginning - Containing one hundred & sixty four acres & also trees, woods, underwoods, profits, advantages & appertenances whatsoever to the sd. Land belonging or will any wise appertaining & also the reversion & reversions, remainder & remainders, rents & services of the same & all estate right & title of him the sd. George Gardner in & to the sd. Lands & every part therein to the said Wm Duberry, his heirs & assigns forever to the only proper use & behoof of him the same Wm Duberry, his heirs & assigns he or they being subject to all the articles in the aforesaid deed from George Gardner him his heirs & assigns & I the said George Gardner the aforesaid land & premises against myself, my heirs & against all & every person or persons whatsoever to the said Wm Duberry his heirs & assigns shall & will warrant & defend by these presents- on Witness whereof I, the said George Gardner hath hereunto set my hand & seal the day and year first above written-

1791, George, Thomas & Pryor Gardner to David Chambliss, Halifax Co., NC

This Indenture made the fourth of November one thousand seven hundred and ninety one, Between George Gardner, Thomas Gardner, & Pryor Gardner of the Counties of Nash & Warren & State of North Carolina, of the one part, & David Chambliss of the County of Halifax & state aforesaid, Witnesseth that the said George, Thomas, & Pryor Gardner, for and in consideration of the sum of ninety two pounds thirteen shillings & four pence, Virginia Money, the receipt thereof the said Gardners doth acknowledge, & of every part thereof acquit & discharge, him the said David Chambliss, his heirs, & executors, administrators, & of every of them before these presents, hath given, granted, bargained, sold, enforced & by these presents doth give, grant, bargain, sell, enforce, & confIrm unto him the said David Chambliss, his heirs executors administrators, or assigns forever, all the estate, right, & title, interest, claim & demand whatsoever, which now is or shall ever hereafter become, or grow due to them the said Gardners of in & to a certain tract or parcel of land containing by estimation three hundred acres be the same more or less; the said land situate & lying in the county aforesaid, lying on the South side of the Marsh Swamp beginning on the said swamp near the great falls thence South to a comer white oak, thence West 272 pole to a red oak; thence North along Cofers line to Josiah Gardner's line, thence along the said Gardner's line to Cofers line up the swamp, thence along Cofers line to the said marsh swamp, thence down the said swamp to the beginning, Together with all houses, building, orchards, & appurtenances whatsoever. To have & to hold the said land & premises unto the said David Chambliss, & his heirs forever. In witness whereof the said Gardners have affixed their hands & seals the day & year above written.
