Will of William Cochran, Sr.
In the name of God amen. William Cochran of the County of Frederick and State of Virginia being of sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testament: First, I desire that my body be decently interred as to my Executors, hereafter named, may seem fit; and after paying my just and lawful debts, my will is that my estate and effects be disposed of as follows, Viz., to my son James Cochran I give and bequeath my big Bible, also, to my son Robert and to my daughter Ann, wife of Mr. Wm. McKean, I give and bequeath to each the sum of five shillings, if the same be demanded of my Executors, and no more, they having received their portions already.
And my will is that my plantation in Frederick County (together with all other my estate and effects be sold (when the present lease thereof which Griffith holds shall expire) to the higest and fairest bidder by publick or private sale, as may seem to my Executors to be the best for all those of my children who have a part therein, and the real produce thereof to be divided into equal parts or portions:
And I give and bequeath to my son James Cochran, and to my son William Cochran, and to my daughter Margaret, wife of Isaiah Calvert, and to my daughter Susanna, wife of Thomas Curlett, and to my daughter Martha, wife of Benjamin Langley, and to my daughter Agnes, and to my daughter Elizabeth, and to my daughter Mary, and to my daughter Rachel, each and each of their heirs, one part or portion thereof so that the whole be equally divided among them, and if either of my said children shall die under age or intestate, then the part or portion which he or she was to have shall be equally divided among the survivors of my children by my second and beloved wife Mary. Moreoever, my will is that the rent of my aforesaid plantation, until it be sold, be converted to the use and maintenance of such of my daughters as continue unmarried until then.
And I hereby nominate, constitute, and appoint my sons James and William Cochran and my son-in-law Thomas Curlett this my will to execute, And I do hereby moreover utterly disallow, revoke, and disannul all and every other former testaments, wills, legacies, and Executors by me in anyways before this time, named, willed, and bequeathed. Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In Witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this tenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety five.

At a court held for Frederick County the 1st day of December 1795 this last will and testament of William Cochran, deceased, was proved by the oaths of Simon Lauck, Henry Moor, Frederick Kurtz, and William Moor, the witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded, and on the motion of James Cochran, William Cochran, and Thomas Curlett who made oath thereto according to law, Certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form. Giving security whree upon they with William Touchstone and Jesse Pugh their securities entered into and acknowledged bond in the penalty of two thousand dollars conditioned for their due and faithful administration of the said decedent's estate.
