I, Thomas Arthur, Pr. Co I. 8th Va Cav Regiment, C. S. Army,
do hereby give this my PAROLE OF HONOR, that I will not take up arms against the United States Government,
until I am regularly exchanged; and that if I am permitted to remain at my home, I will conduct
myself as a good and peaceable citizen, and will respect the laws in force where I reside, and will do
nothing to the detriment of, or in opposition to, the U. S. Government.

THIS IS TO CERTIFY THAT THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION HAS BEEN
Thomas Arthur enlisted in Tazewell County, Virginia, in
April 1864, in Company I, 8th Regiment Virginia Cavalry,
for the war. The exact day of his enlistment is not shown
in his record He was mustered into service as a Private.
On June 5, 1864, he was captured at Piedmont, Virginia, and
taken to Camp Morton, Indianapolis. Indiana, where he was held
until exchanged February 19, 1865. On May 30, 1865, at age
18, he was paroled at Charleston, West Virginia.
