Will of Eli Alexander
Mecklenburg Co., NC


In the Name of God Amen I Eli Alexander of the County of Mecklinburg [sic] and State of North Carolina Being thanks be to God in my true and Rich Senfes with a perfect use of my natural reason and being well afsured that it is ordered for all men once to die and also of the Shortnefs and uncertainty of this transitory Life I have thought proper to settle and dispose of such wordley [sic] goods as our merciful God and gracious Binifact [sic] has been pleased in his providence to grant me in the form following Viz --

1st I Resign and Commit my Spirrit [sic] to God who gave it in hopes of a gracious acceptance through the [merits] mediation and intercefsion of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and my body be commited [sic] to the Erth [sic] in decent Christian Burial at the discration [sic] of my friends and acquaints [sic] and the Lord shall enable them in sure and certain hopes of the same being again raised and Reserved by the power of Almighty God at the General Resurection [sic] and great day of a[_____]

2nd all my Just and Lawful depts [sic] to be fully paid and difcharged --

3rd I will and Bequeath to my beloved Wife Margaret Alexander during her natural life the tract of Land on which I now live containing one hundred and fifty acres likewise thirty more acres k[now] by the Westmorland [sic] tract also my negro boy Bill and one Bed and furniture Likewise all the household and kitchen furniture and her choice of four head of Cows and two of the best horses with G[earing] for the same one sow and pigs or S[horts] Ten head of Sheep likewise all the farming tools.

4th I will and Bequeath to my loving wife and at her disposial [sic] my Negroes G[_____] James and all the books likewise my youngest children to be borded [sic] and schooled out of the profits of the farm at the discration [sic] of my wife

5th I will and bequeath to my loving daughter Lydia M Bell one Hundred Dollars in farther [sic] adition [sic] to what she has received

6th I will and bequeath to my loving son John M Alexander one dollar in adition [sic] to what he has received

7th I will and bequeath to my loving son Ezekiel Alexander my undivided share of land in my brother Josiah Estate supposed to be 22 Acres and one hundred and seventy five dollars in adition [sic] to what he had received

8th I will and bequeath to my loving son Moses J. Alexander the [C]anmore tract of Land containing seventy two acres likewise a Bone [_____] my saddle and bridle Bed and furniture Cow and Calf

9th I will and bequeath to my loving son William S. Alexander the one third of all the property bequeath [sic] to his mother in the 3rd Item at her death him to receive what his mother can spare when he is of age

10th I will and bequeath to my loving son Amos M. Alexander one third of all the property bequeath [sic] to his mother in the 3rd Item at her death him to receive what his mother can spare when he is of age

11th I will and bequeath to my loving son Eli B Alexander my rifle gun and the remaining third of all the property bequeath [sic] to his mother at her death him to receive what his mother can spare when he is of age

12th I will and bequeath to my loving daughter Mary S. Alexander my Negro Girl Silvey and bed and furniture

Further I do substitute and appoint Hugh McAuley and Ezekiel Alexander to be true and lawfull [sic] executors of this my last Will and testiment [sic] abrogating and disanuling [sic] and making void and of none [sic] effect every other will or wills testament or testiments [sic] by me as in my name made done or executed P[re]ciding [sic] this date ratifying allowing and confirming this and this one by my last will and testiment [sic] in witnefs of all hereof I have Sit [sic] my hand and affixed my seal this twenty[_____]th of July one Thousand Eight hundred & thirty four
