Franklin Co., VA Marriage Bonds
1839 & 1840-1850

Vincent M. Burd [Bird] and Sally R. Bradley

Know all men by these presents that we Vincent M. Burd and William Bradley are held and firmly bound unto David Campbell Esqr Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia and his succesfors in office, in the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to which payment w[i]ll and truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs executors & Administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this 17 day of December 1839.

The condition of the above obligations is such that whreas the above bound Vincent M. Burd hath this day attained from the Clerk of Franklin County Court a licence [sic] for his intermarriage with Sally R. Bradley of said County. Now if there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage then the above obligation to be void else to remain in full force and virtue.

I hereby certify that I have given my consent that my daughter Salley R. Bradley should inter Marry [sic] with Vincent M. Burd given under my hand this 17th day of December 1839.

John H. Booth and Nancy G. Bradley

[SSS Note - Elizabeth Bird is one of the witnesses on this bond]

Know all men by these presents that we John H. Benjamin Bird and Le[o]cy Akers

Know all men by these presents that we Benjamin Bird and Sa[m] R. Webster are bound unto Commonwealth of Virginia in the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars the true payment whereof, well and truly to be made we bind ourselves, heirs, administrators, jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this 17 day of June 1848.

The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Benjamin Bird hath this day attained from the Clerk of the county court of Franklin, a license for his intermarriage with L[eoic]y Akers of said County. Now if there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage then the above obligation to be void else to remain in full force and virtue.

Daniel Bird and Susan Loyd

Know all men by these presents that we Daniel Bird and Samuel Hall are bound unto the Commonwealth of Virginia in the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars the true payment whereof, well and truly to be made we bind ourselves, heirs and administrators, jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this 1st day of March 1850.

The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Daniel Bird hath this day attained from the Clerk of the County court of Franklin, a license for his intermarriage with Susan Loyd of said County. Now if there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage then the above obligation to be void else to remain in full force and virtue.

James O. Weaver and Susannah Fisher

Know all men by these presents that we James O. Weaver and Joel Fisher are bound unto the Commonwealth of Virginia in the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars the true payment whereof, well and truly to be made we bind ourselves, heirs, and administrators, jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this 10th day of July 1849.

The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound James O. Weaver hath this day attained from the Clerk of the County court of Franklin, a license for his intermarriage with Susannah Fisher of said County. Now if there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage then the above obligation to be void else to remain in full force and virtue.
