Teachers Are Wed In Baptist Ceremony

Oakhurst Baptist Church was the scene Sunday of the wedding of Miss Carolyn Ann Kistler and Marvin Eugene Poole.

Rev. Frank R. Moore officiated at 4 p.m.  A church reception followed.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David L. Kistler of [address left out for privacy] was given in marriage by her father.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Samuel Poole of [address left out for privacy], the bridegroom chose his father as best man.

Maid of honor was Miss Barbara Kistler, the bride's sister, and bridesmaids were Misses Betty Flowe, Livia Head and Brenda Kistler, the bride's sister.  Junior bridesmaids were Phyllis McManus and Cynthia Merrit.

Mrs. Poole is a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School, Mars Hill College and Wake Forest College.  She has done graduate work at the University of North Carolina and Appalachian State Teachers College.  She teaches at McClintock Junior High School.

Her husband is a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School, Lees-McRae Junior College and ASTC.  He has served with the Army Security Agency in West Germany.  He teaches at Cochrane Junior High School.

After a trip to Williamsburg, Va., the couple will live at [address left out for privacy].

Brandes -- Grimsley

ASHEBORO -- Miss Betsy Ann Grimsley of [address left out for privacy], Charlotte, and James Edward Brandes Jr. were married Sunday.

Dr. Walter E. Sanders officiated at 4 p.m. in First Baptist Church. A reception was held at the bride's home.

The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otis G. Grimsley, was given in marriage by her father.

The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Brandes of [address left out for privacy], Charlotte, had his father as best man.

Maid of honor was Miss Rebecca Brandes of Charlotte, the bridegroom's sister, and bridesmaids were Misses Elizabeth Stevens, Lexington; Hilda Kemp, Charlotte; and Bonnie Chandler.

Flower girl was Barbara Ann Grimsley.  Mrs. Brandes is a graduate of Asheboro High School and East Carolina College.  She teaches at Hawthorne Junior High School, in Charlotte.

Her husband is a graduate of South Mecklenburg High School.  He attended Riverside Military Academy and is employed by Gulf Oil Corp. of Charlotte.

The couple will live at [address left out for privacy], Charlotte.

Skidmore -- Elam

Miss Rebecca Jean Elam of Lenoir and William Lee Skidmore of Hickory were married Sunday.

Rev. Frank Koger officiated at 4 p.m. in Enderly Park Baptist Church.

The bride, daughter of Mrs. Helen Ray Elam of [address left out for privacy] and Robert A. Elam of Houston, Tex., was given in marriage by her uncle, L. R. Bruce.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Skidmore of [address left out for privacy] had his father as best man.

Maid of honor was Miss Suzanne Elam, the bride's sister, and flower girl was Susan Nicholson.

Mrs. Skidmore, a graduate of Harding High School and Coker College, is employed in the Caldwell County schools.

Her husband, a graduate of Myers Park High School, attended Charlotte College and The Citadel.

 He is employed by the American Discount Co., Hickory.

After a trip to Charleston, S. C., the couple will live in Lenoir.

Brewington -- Sanderson

CLINTON -- Miss Betty Rose Sanderson of [address left out for privacy], Charlotte, and Sterlon Edward Brewington of [address left out for privacy]., Charlotte, were married Sunday.

Rev. Roy Maynor officiated at 4 p.m. in New Bethel Baptist Church.  A reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Maynor of Fayetteville.

The bride, daughter of the late Mrs. Claudie Lee Faircloth, was given in marriage by her step-father, C. L. Faircloth.  The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther M. Brewington, had Alton Maynor as best man.

Maid of honor was Miss Doris J. Carter of Wilmington, and attendants were the bridegroom's sister, Mrs. Alton Maynor, and Mrs. Russell Rains.

Mrs. Brewington is a graduate of E. C. I. High School and La Carne's Beauty College.  She is employed by Reed's Beauty Salon, Charlotte.

Her husband is a graduate of E. C. I. High School and the Institute of Barbering in Durham. 

He is employed by Summers and Cranford Barber Shop, Charlotte.

Turner -- Teal

FOREST CITY -- Miss Patricia Woofford Teal of Wingate and Ralph Brewer Turner were married Sunday.

Rev. Elwood Orr officiated at 4 p.m. in First Baptist Church.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wooford C. Teal was given in marriage by her father.  The son of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Turner of Marshville had his father as best man.

Maid of honor was Miss Dottie Waters of Charlotte, and bridesmaids were Misses Ella Tyson, Wingate, and Florence Turner, Charlotte, the bridegroom's sister.

Flower girl was Cindy Ashcraft.

Mrs. Turner is a graduate of Cool Springs High School and Appalachian State Teachers College. 

She teaches at Forest Hills High School in Marshville.

Her husband, a graduate of New Salem High School, is employed by the T and T Cabinet Shop, Charlotte.

The couple will live in Marshville.

Smith -- Byrd

First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church was the scene Sunday of the wedding of Miss Frances Carolyn Byrd and [address left out for privacy] and James Donald Smith.

Rev. Harry C. White officiated at 4 p.m.  A church reception followed.

The bride, a daughter of Mrs. Martha Patterson Byrd of [address left out for privacy] and J. Henry Byrd of [address left out for privacy], was given in marriage by her father.

Best man was Mack D. Fleming of Due West, S. C., and matron of honor was Mrs. John H. Byrd Jr.

Mrs. Smith, a graduate of Myers Park High School, is a student at Erskine College.

Her husband, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde E. Smith of Donalds, S. C., is a graduate of Dixie High School and Anderson College.  He is employed by The Independent Life and Accident Insurance Co., Greenwood, S. C.

After a trip to the mountains, the couple will live in Ware Shoals, S. C.

Barton -- Brazil

ROCK HILL, S. C. -- Miss Sara Ann Brazil of [address left out for privacy], Charlotte, and Charles Stogner Barton were married Sunday.

Rev. T. W. Brazil, of Irmo, the bride's brother, officiated at 4 p.m. in Main Street Methodist Church.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hazel Brazil was given in marriage by her father.  The bridegroom, son of Mrs. W. G. Barton of [address left out for privacy] and the late Mr. Barton, had his brother, Dr. John H. Barton, as best man.

Matron of honor was Mrs. Paul Young of Florence, and attendants were Mrs. W. A. Gaddis, Misses Brenda Goins and Frances Douglas.

Mrs. Barton is a graduate of Rock Hill High School and King's College.  Her husband, a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School, attended Western Carolina College.  He and his bride are employed by Sealtest Foods.

Smith -- Solomon

Miss Ruth Shackleford Solomon and Gary Richard Smith were married Sunday.

Rev. Charles O. Milford and Rev. Moultrie Moore officiated at 3 p.m. in Park Road Baptist Church.  A reception was held at the home of Rev. and Mrs. J. S. Garner, [address left out for privacy].

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kirven Solomon of [address left out for privacy] was given in marriage by her father.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Smith Jr. of [address left out for privacy] had his father as best man.

Matron of honor was Mrs. R. W. Lamkin, the bride's sister, and bridesmaids were Misses Olivia Solomon, the bride's twin sister, and Martha Ann Smith, the bridegroom's sister.

Flower girl was Laura Jean Lampkin.

Mrs. Smith, a graduate of South Mecklenburg High School, is a senior at Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing.

Her husband, a graduate of Myers Park High School, attended Charlotte College.  He is employed by Beall Associates.

Medlin -- Whitesides

SHELBY -- Miss Shirley Mae Whitesides of [address left out for privacy], Charlotte, and Larry Grimes Medlin of [address left out for privacy], Charlotte, were married Sunday.

Rev. Hugh F. Harrill officiated at 12:15 p.m. in Sandy Plains Baptist Church.  A reception was held at the home of Mrs. Winslow Wright Jr.

The bride, daughter of Mrs. John W. Whitesides and the late Mr. Whitesides, is a graduate of Western Carolina College.  She teaches at Derita School.

Her husband, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brandt Medlin of Benson, attended the University of North Carolina.  He is employed by Carbic-Hoechst Corp of Charlotte.

After a trip to the North Carolina coast, the couple will live at [address left out for privacy], Charlotte.

Horne -- Rivers

WADESBORO -- Miss Harriet Ann Rivers of Raleigh and Roman Lester Horne were married Sunday.

Rev. George E. Simmons officiated at 4 p.m. in First Baptist Church.

The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis C. Rivers, was given in marriage by her father.

The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Graham Horne of Peachland, had his father as best man.

Maid of honor was Miss Martha Rivers, the bride's sister.

Mrs. Horne, a graduate of Meredith College, is employed by Carolina Power and Light Co.

Her husband attended Wingate College and the University of North Carolina, where he will continue his studies in January.  He is employed by Delta Finishing Co. in Cheraw, S.C.

The newlyweds are on a wedding trip to Williamsburg, Va.

MISS ELIZABETH ANN LONG and Michael Steve Vereen will be married Jan. 11.  She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Long.  He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson D. Vereen, of Conway, S. C.

Longs Honored On Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Grady Long Jr. were honored at an open house Saturday night celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.

Hosts to 136 guests were their daughter, Miss Brenda Long, and their son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Grady Long III of Wake Forest.

The Long home on [address left out for privacy] was the scene of the party.

Pink roses in silver containers with silver candelabra centered the table.

Mrs. Long received a corsage of white gardenias.

December Dates Set

BULLARD -- WARNER

Miss Judy Bullard of [address left out for privacy] and Jim Warner Jr. of [address left out for privacy] will be married Dec. 29.  She is the daughter of Mrs. Shelton Bullard Sr. of Maxton and the late Mr. Bullard.  He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Warner of [address left  fsout for privacy].

A former Charlottean, Miss Celeste Weathers now of Atlanta, and Wilbur LaFayette Patterson of Atlanta, will be married Dec. 28.  She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Wilbur Weathers of Augusta, Ga.  He is the son of Mrs. Dallas Devotie Patterson of Macon, Ga., and the late Mr. Patterson.
