None Known |
| Location |
Section 27, T60N, R28W |
| Directions |
From Interstate 35, take the DD Hwy exit (exit 72)
and head east. Follow DD in an alternating east and south
direction for about 4 miles until 185St; turn left
(north). After a few hundred feet, turn right (east) on
Lily Ave. (Street names courtesy of 1998 Daviess County
Plat Book by Miller Management Services.) My estimation
is that down about 1 mile down Lily the cemetery would
lay 1/2 to 2/3 north in pasture, possibly near or in an
area of timber. I recommend against attempting to
locate this cemetery without further assistance on a more
precise location. |

(1) History of Daviess County (1984) by the Daviess
County Historical Society in a submission by Elizabeth
Jefferies on page 155 makes mention of this cemetery in a
piece on Marion Township Cemeteries: "Newton
Family Cemetery Range 28, Section 27, according
to the 1916 atlas lies directly south of Grand
River."
(2) The 1916 Plat Book plots this cemetery in Section 27
as Ms. Jefferies says it to be and whose location is not
claimed by any other cemetery in the scope of this
website.
(3) K. A. Newton owned the NW quarter of section 27 in
the 1876 and 1898 plat books. |
