| Name/History | The DAR called this the "Justice and Sperry" cemetery after the JUSTICE and SPERRY surnames with readable tombstones. John H. GITHENS was the original land pantentee and homesteader for the land that this cemetery lies on. Appropriately, the cemetery name should include the GITHENS as well, and this update of the List reflects the change. JUSTICE and SPERRY owned land in the vicinity as evidenced by the 1876, 1898, and 1916 (SPERRY only) plat books; a GITHENS landowner is found in the 1898 plat book. According to Arlene Garrison, the cemetery is in bad shape and where there used to be several stones including members of the GITHENS family, there are now just two. |

| Repositories | DCL, SHS, DARL |
| Location | Section 32, T61, R29W. The cemetery is plotted, but unnamed in the 1898 and 1916 plat books and 1993 Mo General Highway Map. Microsoft Terraserver also plots this cemetery, naming it "GRAVES." Please note however, the cemetery map at DCL plots it erroneously in section 20. |
| Directions | From Interstate 35, take the route "DD" or Civil Bend exit (exit 72). Head west and go through the town of Civil Bend. After a mile you will come to St. Hwy 69. Turn right (north) and go 1/2 mile until Jordan Av. Turn left (west) on Jordan--you will cross Grindstone and Muddy Creeks--and go about 3 1/2 miles to 115 St. Turn right (north) on 115 St. and go 1 1/2 miles until Haven Rd. At Haven, turn left (west) and go 3/4 mile until 110 St. Turn right (north) on 110 St. and follow it 1/2 mile or so to its end.** From there, you will have to cross a crop field owned by the B****** family, heading north for about 1/3 mile. The Terraserver map link above should be a big help: although you will approach the Grand River, you will remain on the south side. Also, thanks to Arlene (above) with help on these directions. |
