Hilarion Manning
Indenture to George Killian
07 July 1828

This indenture witnesseth that Hilarion Manning aged about twenty years hath put himself and by these presents by and with the consent of his father, doth voluntarily and of his own free will and accord, put himself apprentice to George Killian Carpenter & house joiner to learn his part, trade and mystery and after the manner of an apprentice to serve him the said George Killian from this day of the date herefore ..., and during and to the end of one year, during which time he shall well and truly behave and demean himself in every respect as a good & faithful apprentice ought to do toward his said master and the said master shall furnish & provide for the said apprentice good & sufficient, the making and mending of his clothes, washing, lodging, & other perquisite necessaries during his apprenticeship and to pay him the sum of five dollars per month, and also to teach him or cause him to be taught the art or trade of a carpenter & house joiner by the best way or means he can during that space of time and that he will not remove the said apprentice out of the jurisdiction of the State of Missouri.

And for the performance of all and singular the commands & agreements aforesaid the said parties bind themselves each unto the other firmly by these presents.

In witness whereof the said parties have hereunto set their hands and seals this seventh day of July Anno Domini Eighteen hundred & twenty eight.

The Rankin Family History Project began in 1997 with a simple 3 generation family chart.   Inspiration came from our grandmother who has shared a lot of great stories and really got us going when she loaned us her copy of Maryland Catholics on the Frontier by Timothy O'Rourke;   and also from Alex Haley, whom we had the pleasure of meeting shortly before Roots was published.   This site is dedicated to our great-grandparents.   Without them, we would not be here.
