Generation 1. Mary Craig (1798-1866).

Wife of Hamlet Totten, mother of John Craig, Lydia Jane, Elizabeth Christy, Sarah Ann Barrett and Mary Craig Totten.

Mary was born near Hannastown in Westmoreland Co., PA. Her parents were Jane Ralston and John Craig. She may have been one of the Craig twin daughters mentioned in her grandfather Alan Ralston's will.

Mary married Hamlet Totten in 1824. They moved to Armstrong Co., PA in 1827 and settled on a farm in Cowanshannock Twp. in the 1830's. Hamlet's autobiographic sketch says she was "truly a helpmeet" to him in both family and church, and that her favorite Bible verse was "Be still and know that I am God."

This picture is undated; the photographer's mark is "A. Shadle, Artist, Main St., Latrobe, Pa."
