SARAH’S SIBLINGS SETTLERS LIVES  CADLE TREE ONE ~ CADLE TREE TWO CADLE TREE THREE ~
FAMILY TALES RESEARCH NOTES ~ GUESTBOOK
Sarah Emily Hornblow.
Her first marriage was to GEORGE MOORE .occupation uncertain,  His origins unknown;
We believe they married on 17 June 1810 at St Martin in Field Westminster.
Martha Hornblow and William Moore witnessed the marriage.
They lived  in East Street Colchester.
So far we have not found  a death record for George in the time frame 1813-1815.
Certainly he doesnt seem to have died in Colchester in that period.
Their Children were
1
. Mary Catherine Moore born  30 March 1811 in Colchester Died age 12 in Grahamstown SA

2.
John Cotton Moore possibly  born 1812  in Colchester . There is no record of his birth in the post 1813 registers. I have tracked a John Moore, a tailor of the right age ,  in the census's  first  in East Street Colchester and later nearby Mistley, Occupation Tailor then Agent for East India Company and finally Sail Maker.
John
is mentioned in his mother Sarah's Will of 1843 but as yet it is not possible to confirm his whereabouts after she  left him.

3.
Sarah Georgiana Moore Bapt 14th March 1813.   Lived in East St Colchester   Parish of  St James . This would be St James the Great Church on East Hill Colchester.

When
Sarah Hornblow married John Cadle in 1816 the lives of her children were changed.
By  1820
, Sarah and John Cadle    had three more children and times in England were hard. They applied to go to  South Africa on the Goverment funded Settlement Scheme. Their individual  application was turned down until they joined Howards Party.  They sailed from Deptford  after a delay because the Thames was frozen leaving Deptford on Dec 13th 1819. The ship was delayed by storms and reached Plymouth around the 28th Dec. They finally sailed on January 1st  1820.  and after a stop at Torbay lefy England on the 2nd Jan 1820.
Sarah's  daughter Sarah Georgina remained behind, with her brother John Cotton Moore. The eldest daughter Mary Catherine went with her mother and sadly she died  a few weeks after John Cadle was drowned..  It is possible the two children  went to live with either their grandmother Elizabeth  in London or possibly with friends,  the Bretts who may have been god-parents, lived in Colchester but why leave them behind if their father was dead?
Edward Brett remembered Sarah Georgiana in his will although John is not mentioned.
When
Sarah Georgiana Moore was married 22 years later  on 16 SEP 1838 in St Dustan’s Stepney London to Augustus Stephen Jeffery Pomery, born Stepney 1818 ,  it appears that her father was present.

Married by Licence witnessed by RichardPomeroy & Caroline Maria Moore. Father’s names and occupation were given as  Richard Pomeroy (commercial clerk)  Address 46 Green Street Stepney.and George Moore (corn merchant,  with no mention of being deceased )

Separation may be what happened but that would not have allowed legal  re- marriage. Divorce is the other possibility but it was rare ,scandalous and required an act of Parliament. The other alternative is bigamy.

Her father, Rev John Hornblow's obituary states ' unpleasant circumstance took place respecting sentiment, which made much havoc before it subsided. In the course of his pilgrimage many trying circumstances occurred, both as to his religious and family connections, which caused him to go mourning'

We did find a George Moore, gentleman arriving in Grahamstown, SA in January the year Sarah died, 1843. Whether it is the same George Moore we do not know .We are trying to find out about this gentleman in Port Elizabeth.
If this was her mislayed husband come visiting she may have had a very nasty shock!  Unless they were in agreement and had some sort of friendly arrangement. The marriage certificate of her daughter in London in 1838 shows a Caroline Maria Moore as witness. Could they both have re married bigamously??

The fact that she named all her children in her1843 Will, including the two left behind, would seem to indicate that a communtication was maintained between them.

Sarah and Augustus Pomery began married life in Stepney 1841 census has them living with his parents and their first child.  Augustus worked as a clerk for the East India Company and in 1846 they moved to Liverpool where he started working for the Merseyside Harbour Board in the offices controlling the newly constructed Albert Docks By the time her retired in 1889 he was Principle of General  Office,Receiver of Charges and Duty and Superintendent of  the Albert Dock Offices.

They had 8 children.  1 daughter and 7 sons 4  of whom survived into adulthood.
