My Great Aunt Mildred died today, my mother's favorite aunt and the sole inspiration for the Stratman family page on this site. She loved to share the memories of her family, especially the memories of "her mother". She was 89 years young and in the words of her daughter "my mom is still remarkable".
The daughter of German immigrants and the youngest of six children, she was so proud of her German heritage. She was born in Illinois, the daughter of a coal miner who died in a coal mining accident when she was 18. She attended nursing school, married a doctor, raised three daughters and a son. Her son and her husband proceeded her in death. According to her daughter "she grieves for daddy and my brother, but she keeps busy cooking up a storm for anyone and everyone willing to come to her table". I only met her once but spoke with her often about our family history. You couldn't help but love her!!! She was a "Great Lady".
My deepest and heart felt sympathy to her adoring family.
