In July 1768 (only 10 years after the last Acadian Expulsion), the abbey Bailly settled at Halifax, the central location of his assignment.  During his five years in Halifax, Bailly was the only priest in the entire area of the Canadian maritime provinces, and thus, traveled frequently.  His itinerary was impressive;  he visited Cap de Sable, Bay St. Marie, Annapolis Royal, Windsor, Chezzetcook and areas of Cape Breton, all in Nova Scotia, and many areas of New Brunswick.

Because his register shows the extent of displacement of the Acadian people during the 1760's and 1770's, his work has valuable demographic and sociological value.  Moreover, it is an extremely important source of genealogical information as well.  The following text has been translated from its original French and the spelling of names has remained the same.  Only Samson/Sampson individuals have been included
 
 

On September 30, 1771, at Decoux (D'Escousse) on Isle Madame in Nova Scotia, we have rehabilitated the marriages of the persons named below, contracted before witnesses in the absence of a missionary, and have had them renew their mutual consent and marriage vows, and given them nuptial benediction according to the prescribed manner of our holy Roman church.

Jean Marie Josse, son of Francois Josse and Marie Langlois, natives of the same area;  with Anne Sampson, daughter of Mattieu Sampson and Marguerite Lapierre, born at Cape Breton. 

On September 30, 1771, at Lardoise harbor in Cape Breton we have supplied the baptismal ceremonies which the Church has authorized for those born legitimately, to the persons named below from legitimate marriages:
Gertrude, born June 12, 1769, daughter of Pierre Sampson and Marguerite Landry, his wife;  Eustache Marchant, Godfather and Charlotte Sampson, Godmother. 
Cecile, born February 24, 1768, daughter of Francois Sampson and Marie Maillet, his wife;  Alexandre Roch, Godfather and Francoise Laverne, Godmother. 
Lyduvine, born December 15, 1764, daughter of Pierre Sampson and Marguerite Landry;  Alexandre Landry, Godfather and Marguerite Lapierre, Godmother. 
Genevieve, born January 2, 1764, daughter of Jean Sampson and Francoise Laverne;  Pierre Sampson, Godfather and Marguerite Landry, Godmother. 

On the first of October, 1771, at Lardoise harbor in Cape Breton, I supplied baptismal ceremonies to the persons named below, all issued of legitimate marriages or made in the presence of witnesses the day of or soon after their birth:
Magloire, born June 19, 1767, son of Michel Sampson and Magdeleine Martel; Charles Martel, Godfather and Anne Bouree, Godmother. 
Gabriel, born November 15, 1765, son of Jean Sampson and Francoise Clerge; Francois Sampson, Godfather and Genevieve Sampson, Godmother. 
Ambroise, born September 6, 1769, son of Charles Sampson and Magdeleine Martel;  Charles Martel, Godfather and Urusle Martel, Godmother. 
Urbain, born May 2, 1765, son of Michel Sampson and Magdeleine Martel;  Joseph Martel, Godfather and Jeanne Sampson, Godmother. 
Justinien, born March 26, 1770, son of Francois Sampson and Marie Maillet; Alexandre Landry, Godfather and Magdeleine Marchant, Godmother. 
Cyprien, born August 22, 1762, son of Michel Sampson and Magdeleine Martel; Louis Marchant, Godfather and Marie Maillet, Godmother. 

 
The second of October, 1771, at Lardoise harbor in Cape Breton, I supplied baptismal ceremonies to the persons named below, all issued of legitimate marriages or made in the presence of witnesses the day of or soon after their birth:
Pierre Xavier, born January 31, 1767, son of Pierre Sampson and Marguerite Landry;  Jean Pate, Godfather and Lyduvine Sampson, Godmother.

 

On the third of October, 1771, at Lardoise harbor in Cape Breton, we have rehabilitated the marriages of the persons named below, contracted before witnesses in the absence of a missionary, and with the permission of Mr. Maillard, grand vicar;  we have given them nuptial benediction according to the manner of our holy Roman church, and have had them renew their mutual consent and marriage vows.
Michel Sampson, son of Michel Sampson and Anne Paris;  with Magdeleine Martel, daughter of J. Bap. Martel and Marie Pouget, without any impediments. 
Francois Sampson, son of Mathieu Sampson and Marguerite Pouget;  with Marie Maillet, daughter of -- Maillet and Clair Langlois.
On May --, 1772, at St. Peter's, Cape Breton... Jean, born February 7, son of Jean Sampson and Marguerite Francoise Clerge; Bruno Sampson, Godfather and Gervaise Dugas, Godmother.
Charlotte, born November 9, daughter of Michel Sampson and Magdeleine Martel; Laurent Kavanaugh, Godfather and Magdeleine Marchant, Godmother.
On May 20, 1772, Sylvestre, born on December 30, at Lardoise, from the legitimate marriage of Francois Sampson and Marie Maillet, has received the ceremony of baptismal, and had as Godfather, Eustache Marchant and as Godmother, Gertrude Landry
