In July 1768 (only 10 years after the last Acadian
Expulsion), the abbey Bailly settled at Halifax, the central location of
his assignment. During his five years in Halifax, Bailly was the
only priest in the entire area of the Canadian maritime provinces, and
thus, traveled frequently. His itinerary was impressive; he
visited Cap de Sable, Bay St. Marie, Annapolis Royal, Windsor, Chezzetcook
and areas of Cape Breton, all in Nova Scotia, and many areas of New Brunswick. |
Because his register shows the extent of displacement
of the Acadian people during the 1760's and 1770's, his work has valuable
demographic and sociological value. Moreover, it is an extremely
important source of genealogical information as well. The following
text has been translated from its original French and the spelling of names
has remained the same. Only Samson/Sampson individuals have been
included
