This forum has been established to encourage and advance the research necessary to establish the ancestral line of the early Rossell/Roszell/Rozell families of New York and New Jersey.
Organized on the forum are transcipts of primary source material dating from the earliest time to 1850. It is hoped that by pooling our sources we might gain more knowledge of our ancestors and their immediate families.
This forum makes it clear that the information given in the published genealogy Stemmata Rossellana (SB) by Hugh B. Rossell (©1912, 1921, 1939) is not accepted as the complete truth regarding the Rossell (and variants) families that lived in New York, New Jersey and Virginia. This forum takes the stand that while there is no doubt some accurate information given in this book, there are many omissions and unverified "facts" that have misled many family descendants.
For the purposes of this forum primary source material includes wills, probate papers and other legal documents; land records such as deeds and mortgages; tax lists and census records; Bibles; vital records such as birth, death, and marriage. Because scanned documents appear as graphics on web pages and slow down the use of the page, all sources will be transcribed as text documents (rich text format).

Material will be grouped chronologically according to geographic location - New York and New Jersey.
