(These rules and regulations were adopted by the Cemetery Association on June 03, 2007)
Important Information Please do not move the cement blocks that are lying randomly around the grounds. These are actually markers for unmarked graves. Many grave markers were lost during the flood and tornado of 1930 and the cemetery association at that time attempted to place these stones where there were known graves.
Regulations
Curbingis limited to the following: Curbing around graves shall be no higher than six (6) inches from the ground surface inside and outside of the grave site, with a thickness of the curbing not less than four (4) inches and no more than six (6) inches except for the corners which can be thickened for strength.
No fencing shall be erected without the approval of the Board of Directors of the Salem Irene Cemetery Association or their appointed representatives whose phone numbers are available on site.
Monuments and inscriptions on any monument shall be accurate and in keeping with the respect and dignity for the interred and for the Cemetery as a place of honor and to memorialize loved ones.
Temporary markers of wood, concrete, paper and plastic are prohibited. Temporary metal markers provided by funeral homes are permitted until replaced by a permanent monument, which should be within 6 months of interment.

Who can be buried at Salem-Irene Cemetery? Salem-Irene is not a public cemetery and there are eligibility requirements that must be met in order to be buried in the cemetery.

If I am eligible for burial in the Cemetery, who can be buried with me?
1) The person's spouse; and

What is the cost for burial plots?
1) For members (persons with family interred prior to 1965), the interment fee for a single plot is $200
2) For non-members (persons with no previous family members in the Cemetery), but that have been approved by the Association, the fee for interment is $1,000
Funeral arrangements (opening and closing graves)
An agreement has been made with Holloway-Marshall & Marshall, Inc. d/b/a Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors that they shall have exclusive rights to open and close graves in the cemetery controlled by the Association, generally known as the Salem-Irene Cemetery. The fee for opening and closing graves is $685 (subject to change, call for current fee (254)582-2581 (fee updated on this site 03/05/2009). Any funeral home may perform funeral services but will make arrangements with Marshal & Marshall for the opening and closing.
Marshall & Marshall shall collect the cemetery interment fee at the time of the opening and closing of a gravesite and shall deliver the fee to the Association. Opening and closing graves shall also apply to cremated human remains within the cemetery.
