Samuel arrived in the port of New York on June 30, 1834 on the Brig Princess Royal which departed from London. Others on board that same Ship were his future brother-in-law Henry Rosenbrook, his sisters Eleanor, Mary Jane, Louisa and Caroline, wife Eleanor, son George Pike and parents George and Jane Pike.121Samuel Bought 50 acres of land south of the intersection of angevine and East Barre roads in 1850.813
Samuel moved to Kalamazoo Michiganabout 1855814. The 1870 Kalamazoo census records indicate real estate valued at $17,300 and a $200 personal estate.815
In the 1880 census he was listed as a widower and his son John was listed as the head of household. The family had many Boarders including Samuel's sister, the widow Mary Jane Preston and her daughter, and a Doctor and his family.763
The old family homestead from 1855-1888 still stands in Kalamazoo and is occupied, there is a large pond out behind it known as 'Pike's Pond'.
