Where Did They Come From?
In genealogy, the quest is to find out where your ancestors came from. This Rice family appears to be Polish in origin. But Poland did not exist as a country at the time of my ancestral immigration. Polish peoples in the 19th and early 20th century were either under German or Russian governments. Polish ancestry today can be traced to the current political maps of Poland, Germany, Lithuania, and Belarus (formerly part of the Soviet Union).
Below is a current 1997 extended map of Poland. Overlaid on this map is the documented birthplace of six of my direct ancestors. This map will be updated as research continues.
