Joseph Rutledge, born 1770 in South Carolina. He married Mary. Died 1852 in Gwinnett County, Georga.Ancestors before Joseph and Mary Rutledge are unproven to date. Joseh Rutledge and his descendents are documented.
Joseph Rutledge, wife, Mary (1775 SC-1855 GA) owned land in Pendleton District SC in 1816. In 1818 they bought land in Abbeville District on a branch of the Saluda river adjoinng land of Willim Davis, Thomas Donaldson, Norwood and Maddox. Other family members had land nearby and also in Laurens District.
Joseph had a brother, Jesse Rutledge,(1774 SC-1857GA) and he had another brother,(Name unknow) who had a son named William. His father evidently died when William was young and his mother, (Name unknown), married a Knight. She evidently was also deceased when William died abt. 1822.
Joseph, Mary and most of their children migrated to Gwinnett Co. Ga. area,1825-1831.
