Have some ancestors who just can't be found? Welcome to the club! Here are my most frustrating ancestors to NOT be found. I KNOW they must have been in the Witness Protection Program of the 1800's and early 1900's or else they could be found! I want to find all the descendants of my grandfather, Eugene Homer Davis's sisters and information about the missing years of my gg grandmother, Nancy Ann Nichols! If you have ANY information on my missing ancestors, PLEASE E-mail me!!!
Nancy Ann NICHOLS Nancy Malinda Nichols, b 1834 GA-d 3/8/1918 TX Her father could be James Nichols born about 1803 NC Don't have anything on her mother. Nancy Malinda Nichols married Jacob Ivester, 9/18/1853 in Habersham County, GA They had the following children: Mary Susan, Martha L., Lovicia Aveline, Lizzy Jacob was captured at Gettysburg, died of smallpox in a hospital in New Jersey prisoner of war hospital and is buried at Finn's Point, New Jersey. Nancy Malinda never knew what happened to Jacob. Nancy Malinda had three other children: Becky, Jane, Unknown...died at birth or soon after? I do not know who the father was to these two children. Could be Jacob, could possibly not be. Could be a Merritt. Definitely would not be a Nix. Nancy Malinda's first two daughters can be found in other people's households in the 1870 census, one in an Ivester home and one in Mitchell Henry Anderson's parent's home. BUT NO place is Nancy Malinda or Lovicia found. The family story IN GEORGIA was that Nancy ran off to Texas and was never heard from since. Well, her daughter Lovicia was my great grandmother. I was the first descendant of Nancy Ann's to be heard from in 134 years when I found my connection to the Ivester's of Georgia. Lovicia grew up and married Mitchell Henry Anderson IN HABERSHAM County - Turnerville, GA on Jan 11, 1881. Mitchell Henry Anderson was born in Turnerville, GA per a cousin of mine. They had 7 (seven!!) children IN Habersham County before Mitchell Henry made the land run in Oklahoma in 1891. Lovicia and their children came to Sayre, Merritt Community, Oklahoma via train a year later. Nancy Malinda married Ira C. Dallas Nix, son of William Billy Nix and Mary Elvira Smith about 1895 per 1910 census when I find her next. She would be aged 61. Ira was aged 52 in 1895. This was found in Oklahoma records in Greer County. Ok, In a Book on the Nix family that my cousin found at the Clarksville Library: The Nix Family by Wanda (West) Gregory was found: "Ira C. 'Dal' Nix served in the 24th Reg. of Georgia Infantry (Confederate) of White Co. He married a Merritt and moved to Galhart, Texas." Note: There is no 'Galhart', Texas....it has to be Dalhart, Texas This is all I have to go on. Did she marry a Merritt after Jacob and before Ira Nix? I did not find her in the 1870 census nor Lovicia either. It just does not stand to reason that she would not be there! She married Ira Nix I am supposing in Habersham County. So, I figure she was there all this time...from 1863 until 1895... I know she was in Greer County, Oklahoma by 1910 with Ira Nix. By 1913 shewas in Ochiltree County, Texas where she is buried next to Ira. ANYTHING I can find out on the Merritt man she married. ANYTHING I canfind out on the Nichols family. ANYTHING would be most appreciated! |
