Nichols Queries I Have Received

Greg Nichols

I am searching the William Nichols of Pitt County NC.

Carol McGiboney Piper

My Nichols family lived in Bedford County, TN from (known) 1811 until some of them went to Licking, Texas County, MO. John Wheeler Nichols, son of Jackson and Nancy Wheeler Nichols, married Margaret Jane Taylor (also of Unionville) and later moved to Licking, MO. Nancy Wheeler's two sisters married Elliott and James Rucker.

Carolyn Nichols Owens

Am looking for parents of James Turner Nichols who was born in Tennessee1821. His brother was named John (N. or M.) Nichols and was born in Georgia1826. Sure would like to find a connection.

I have no Solomons' in my line but am searching for my Nichols' clan. Hopefully someone will know something about them. William Nichols and Etta Nichols (nee Howell), living in Iowa in 1893. Their son Howard Earl(aka Harry/Harold) was born in 1893. Williams profession was as a Baker in Iowa, which county I do not know. His wife Etta died before 1929 and is buried somewhere in Wyoming. Howard Nichols emigrated to Australia in 1929. Would love to hear from anyone who has any informationon these Nichols'. Thanks so much.

Please send any info you have available on William Nichols. We are trying to prove that he may be father of Coleman Nichols b. abt. 1739 in Bladen Co. N.C. Died bef. 1825 in Columbus Co. N.C.

Received from Cheryl Crowder:

Issac Nichols lived in Anson Co. N.C. Died in 1781-82 because wife inventoried estate in 1782.

Issac appeared in land records of edgecomb Co. N.C. 3/23/1761 when he received 700 acres on both sides of Great Swamp. Also residing in area were Jeremiah and Coleman Nichols. They appear to be brothers. Jeremiah was a known son of William Nichols and Jeremiah married Lurene Flowers.

Issac Nichols and his wife Honor, later moved to Anson Co. where Issac received 200 acres joining the N. side of Lick Creek on 1/22/1773. This land joined that of Robert Jarman

I am researching the Nichols line. On my Mothers side my G-grandfather was David Nichols b 25 Apr 1843 in TN, d 1887 in Franklin Co. AR, his father was James J. Nichols b Jan 1805 in TN, d 1887 in AR. My G-grandmother was Martha M. Nichols b 1845 in AL, and her father was Lawson Nichols b 1814 in TN & d bef 1870 in AR.

Virginia Nichols Manning

I have been searching for the parents and siblings of Uriah Nichols, b. 1817 TN. Have been unable to find where his line came from before they arrived in TN. Did find a Uriah Nichols, b. 1795 VA at one time, but couldn't make the connection. My Uriah Nichols, moved around and usually lived next to these other Nichols families. John Clifton Nichols, Lawson Nichols [brothers], Jesse Nichols, Harvey Nichols, and sometimes, James J. Nichols, allegedy a brother to Uriah.

J. Nolan Grady

My Second Great Grandmother was Cary W. Nichols. Her name was most likely Caroline, but all records, census and land show Cary. In about 1829/30 she married John S. Grady (I have found no record of the marriage). They appeared in the 1850 Wake County census. Their youngest child shows to have been born in Tennessee about 1853 (1860 Gibson County, Tennessee census). Her grave marker in Gibson County Tennessee shows she was born 8 Apr 1816 and died 9 Jun 1885.

I found the Will of a Delia Nichols (according to the North Carolina Archives). The signature is definitely Deler Nichols. In the Will it mentions a sister Carey Grady. It also mentions all of the daughters of John S. and Cary Grady. It mentions one son, Willis Grady. I feel very strongly that Deler was a single female. She left the bulk of her estate to her church.

The Will further mentions a brother Willis Nichols. The Will was dated April 25th, 1848 in Wake County.

I came across your submission and noticed the mention of a Moses Nichols in your list for men in the War of 1812. I am wondering if this could be my ggggrandfather Moses Nichols. He was born in North Carolina in 1791 and died in 1863, putting him in his very early 20's during that war. I have just recently received a descendancy list from John Foster, finding out that Moses is my relation. John told me that he has been searching for 20 years and has been unable to find anything on Moses. If you have anything at all on this man, it would be wonderful!! The only other thing I have on him is his wife's name was Elizabeth, born in 1798, also in North Carolina.

Mike Nichols

Tolar, Texas

My ggg-grandfather Moses Nichols was from NC (born 1791, married Elizabeth ---------- [born 1798 NC], both living in Lincoln County, TN, by early 1813), but that's all we know. I have seen that roster list and hoped t was him. the time and place seem right to me. but a longtime Lincoln County, TN, nichols researcher, John Foster, thinks it is not. He even requested military records for Moses Nichols and was told there are none. Moses just doesn't seem to want to be bothered with.

Mary Jane

Jacob Nichols: Will 1792 Iredell Co NC named sons Joshua & John. He married Agness LOCK in Rowan Co NC 1762. His father was Joshua NICHOLS. Is anyone researching this family?

I am looking for the father of William Robert Nichols born 1823, either in North or South Carolina. William Robert had a son Thomas Jefferson Nichols born June 6, 1859 in South Carolina. William Robert's father would have had to have been around the late 1700's. I suspect that his name was also William. I seem to have hit a brick wall with this. My William Robert Nichols is buried in Nichols Cemetery in Sumter Co. Fla. It is believed that he was from the North or South Carolina area. Some of the older children were born in South Carolina.

Susan M. (Sue) Gates Davis
