Myrnice's Census tags

As for anything in TMG, you can also have many ways to record census data, and Myrnice shared his with me:

These are two sentences from my grandfathers page. The first is as a witness to his father's entry and the second is as a Head of household:

As Thomas H's son, Samuel Roberts (age 28), born in Bahamas Islands, occupation: carpenter - ship, was enumerated in the 1 January 1920 census, on 6 Jan 1920 at 612 Simonton Street, Key West, Monroe County, Florida, USA.

As Head of Household 221/260, Samuel W Roberts (age 36), born in Bahamas, occupation: carpenter - shipbuilding, was enumerated in the 1 April 1930 census, on 21 Apr 1930 at 3072 SW Seventeenth Street, Miami, Dade County, Florida, USA, with his wife, Luella Roberts (age 35), born in Florida, Residing in the same household were his son, William H Roberts (age 15), born in Florida, daughter, Lois L Roberts (age 13), born in Florida, daughter, Mary E Roberts (age 8), born in Florida and son, Frank C Roberts (age 6), born in Florida. He was listed as being married at age 22 and his wife married at age 19. Both of his parents were listed as being born in the Bahamas.

In order to accomplish this I have a Namecensusxxx tag for each census year with the xxxx being the year of the census. Data entered into these tags is as follows:

Title - The role played by this individual in this census (Head of household, wife, daughter, son, niece, etc.)

Prefix - The place of birth listed in this census for this individual. Given Name - As it appears in this census for this individual.

Presurname - Misc info you wish that is included between the birth place and occupation on the output.

Surname - As it appears in this census for this individual.

Suffix - Age as it appears in this census in parentheses. Other Name -the word "occupation: " followed by the occupation listed in this census.

I have a name style for census use which I call "census" and the output template is:

[Title] [GivenName] [Surname] [Suffix] [Prefix] [PreSurname] [OtherName]

This output will generate the "Role, Given/Surname, Age, Place of birth, Misc info, Occupation" whenever this person is selected in a sentence.

I have "Censusxxxx" tags for each census year. My sentence structures for each role is similar for each census year. The difference between census years is the enumeration date for each census year. An example of the Head of household sentence for the 1930 census is:

[:CR:][:TAB:]As [P1], was enumerated in the 1 April 1930 census, <[D]><at [L]>< with his [R:Wife],>< with her [R:Husband],><Residing in the same household was [PP] [R:only 1 resident]><Residing in the same household were [PP] [R:resident01]><, [R:resident02]><, [R:resident03]><, [R:resident04]><, [R:resident05]><, [R:resident06]><, [R:resident07]><, [R:resident08]><, [R:resident09]><, [R:resident10]><, [R:resident11]><, [R:resident12]><, [R:resident13]><, [R:resident14]><, [R:resident15]><, [R:resident16]><, [R:resident17]><, [R:resident18]><, [R:resident19]>< and [R:resident.n]>.<[M1]>

The roles of "Wife" and "Husband"are similar, an example of a sentence for the "Wife" role is:

[:CR:][:TAB:]As [RG:Head of Household]'s [R:Wife], was enumerated, in the 1 April 1930 census, <[D]><at [L]><[M2]>

There are 20 "Residentxx" roles for each census year where xx is a value between "01" and "19" or ".n", an example of a sentence for the (Residentxx) role is:

[:CR:][:TAB:]As [RG:Head of Household]'s [R:residentxx], was enumerated, in the 1 April 1930 census, <[D]><at [L]><[M0]>

This allows me to have up to 22 individuals for each household for each census year. If there are more that 22 you can easily add additional "Residentxx" roles with numbers "20" through "99" having up to 102 individuals in the household without much change in the format.

I always assign the roles of "Head of household", "wife"/"husband" and then use the "Residentxx" roles in numerical order except I assign the last one to "Resident.n". The exception to this rule is if there is only one resident I assign this person to the role "only 1 resident" with a sentence structure as follows:

[:CR:][:TAB:]As [RG:Head of Household]'s [R:only 1 resident], was enumerated, in the 1 April 1930 census, <[D]><at [L]><[M0]>

I add misc information to split memo fields in the "Censusxxxx" tags for other information such as where parents were born, age at first marriage etc. I use "M1" for HOH, "M2" for wife/husband and "M3 through "M9" for any resident that needs additions information added. If you use "M3" through "M9" you need to change the "M0" in that residents sentence to the appropriate memo number.

This will provide the output as shown above.
