CHRONOLOGY OF THE RUHE MIGRATION


SECOND GENERATION

Frederick E. RUHE (son of Fred K. and brother to Ernest W.)

1827 -- August 27, Frederick E. was born in Buckeborg, Germany. This date according to family members.

1851 -- July 1, Frederick E. married Wilhelmena (or Wilhemina) Poohler in Germany, this date according to family members.

1852 -- Daughter Mena born in Germany, this date according to Census record.

1852 to 1856 -- Frederick E. and family immigrate to DuPage Co., near Chicago, Illinois Family state they began farming on land that is now the Chicago Airport. We have not been able to corroborate as yet, but believe this is correct.

1856 -- February 11, daughter Caroline born in DuPage Co., Illinois indicated by Census reports and family members.

1857 to 1858 -- Frederick E. and family moved to Houston Co., Minnesota to farm, this date is estimated according to Census records and Land Deeds.

1858 -- Daughter Emma born in Houston Co., Minnesota, this information according to Census record.

1860 -- Census record indicates Frederick E., family, and parents Fred K. and wife are living on a farm in Winnebago Twp., Portland Prairie, Houston Co., Minnesota. Ernest W. and wife are living a few farms houses away.

1865 -- June, Minnesota State Census reports Frederick E., wife, children, and parents Fred K. and Sophia living together on farm in Winnebago Twp,. Houston Co., Minnesota.

1870 -- Frederick E. and Family can not be found on a Census record.

1871 -- Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota Platte Map indicates Fred RUHE owns 160 acres Section 31. It is assumed that Frederick E. and family are living in this area as a new dwelling had just been built by father Fred K..

1875 -- May, Minnesota state Census records indicate Frederick E., wife, family and mother living on a farm.

1876 -- March 31, Sophia Leonore RUHE dies of old age at home in Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota. Frederick E. inherits mothers estate. We are still looking for a Will.

1876 to 1878 -- Frederick E. Wife Caroline and family leave Minnesota after death of mother Sophia for Everett Twp, Burt Co., Nebraska. We are still looking for the Land Deed as corroboration. Historical Books indicate that many people had left this location to farm sheep in Nebraska as many as 12 years prior to this date, some friends of the RUHE families.

1878 -- Houston County Map indicates 160 acres of the F. RUHE land in Section 31 now split into two 80 acre plots and sold.

1880 -- Census record indicates Frederick E., wife, daughter, and nephew Henry F., son of Ernest W., living in Everett Twp., Burt Co., Nebraska and farming. Henry F. may have been in Nebraska as long as two years. Ernest W. and family remain in Minnesota.

1900 -- June 14, Census record indicates Frederick E. and wife Wilhelmena (Minnie) are living in Bell Creek Twp., Burt Co., Nebraska and earning income as Landlords.

1907 -- Wilhelmena dies in Bell Creek Twp., Burt Co., Nebraska. This date is uncorroborated.

1910 -- April 23, Census record indicates Frederick E. is widowed and living with his daughter Caroline and her husband Henry Strelo in Lyons, Everett Twp., Burt Co., Nebraska.

1912 -- April 17, Frederick E. dies in Lyons, Everett Twp., Burt Co., Nebraska, date and location provided by family members.

Ernest W. RUHE (son of Fred K.)

1829 -- Ernest W. was born in Brealburg, Prussia (Germany) as indicated by obituary.

1846 to 1852 -- Dates differ on Census records as to when Ernest W. immigrated to America and to what port.

1858 -- October 1, Ernest E. marries Caroline Schafer, the marriage license was issued in DuPage Co., Illinois October 1, 1858 at the County court House. Obituary stated they were married in Bloomington, Illinois. The license indicates Ernest and Caroline were married in DuPage Co., Illinois October 2, 1858 by Minister U. Mocklin. Ernest and Caroline received a Family Bible after marriage, but contains only the names and birth dates of their children.

1859 to 1860 -- Ernest W. and wife Caroline move to Portland Prairie, Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota to begin farming.

1860 -- Census record indicates Ernest W. and wife Caroline are living in Portland Prairie, Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota and engaged in farming. The Census also indicates the brother of Caroline lives one house away, and the father and brother of Ernest live only two houses away.

1861 -- October 10, son Henry F. in born in Portland Prairie, Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota.

1863 -- Son Unknown born in Portland Prairie, Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota. This information provided by Census record and the Family Bible. This child died early and no other information is known about this individual at present. It was often common not to give a new born child a name until Christened or Baptized.

1864 -- Ernest W. was drafted into the U. S. Army, served with Co. G, 22nd Infantry Regiment, Minnesota. (We have not obtained his War Record yet.)

1865 -- Discharged from the U. S. Army due to illness, returns to the farm in Minnesota.

1865 -- June, Minnesota State Census indicates Ernest is head of house, a veteran, and the Jacob Herchuer family is living with him in Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota.

1867 -- Daughter Katz was born Portland Prairie, Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota. At present the exact date is unknown, this information was indicated on the 1870 Census records and writings in the Family Bible stating Katz was at least 11 years old.

1869 -- Daughter Unknown born in Portland Prairie, Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota. This information provided by Census record and the Family Bible. This child also died early and no other information is known about this individual.

1870 -- Census record indicates the Ernest W. family have lost a member of the family. Katz is no longer listed on the Census record, presumed deceased.

1871 -- Houston County Map indicates Ernest owns 80 acres in and on the border of the town of Eitzen, Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota. The Eitzen Post Office also occupies a small plot in the Southeast portion of the property which spans Section 31 and 32.

1872 -- April 7, daughter Caroline Emma born, in Portland Prairie, Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota.

1875 -- May, Minnesota State Census indicates Ernest W., Caroline, and family living in Winnebago Twp., Portland Prairie, Houston Co., Minnesota and engaged in farming.

1878 -- Houston County Map indicates Ernest living on 40 acres in Section 31 and 35 acres in Section 32 in and near the town of Eitzen, Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota. 160 acres of the F. RUHE land split into two 80 acre plots and sold.

1880 -- Collects as Civil War Veteran, a monthly pension of $4.00.

1883 -- Ernest W. and family move to Logan Twp, near Lyons, Burt Co., Nebraska. Family members state they purchased 160 acres of prime land to farm, the last of the acreage was sold within the past decade by descendants.

1900 -- June 5, Census record indicates Ernest W. and wife Caroline with servant Esther Peterson are living in Bell Creek Twp., Burt Co., Nebraska and farming at age 71.

1910 -- May 10, Census record indicates Ernest W. and wife Caroline are living in a house in Oakland, Burt Co., Nebraska and retired.

1918 -- July 29 Ernest W. dies in Bertha, Burt Co., Nebraska. Burial was at Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Bertha, Burt Co., Nebraska.

1920 -- February 9, Census record indicates Caroline widowed living with grandson Ira RUHE and family in Bell Creek Twp., Burt Co., Nebraska.

1923 -- December 6 Caroline dies in Bertha, Burt Co., Nebraska. Burial was at Grace Lutheran Cemetery Bertha, Burt Co., Nebraska.
