CHRONOLOGY OF THE RUHE MIGRATION


FIRST GENERATION

Fred K. Ruhe (father of Frederick E. and Ernest W.)

1799 -- Frederick K. was born in Germany, date and location according to Census records.

1826 -- Frederick K. marries Sophia Leonore Unknown in Germany, exact date and location unknown, this date according to Census and Church records.

1827 -- August 27, son Frederick E. born in Buckeborg, Germany, date and location according to family members.

1829 -- March 4, son Ernest W. born in (spelled Earnest and Ernst in several documents) Brealburg, Germany, date and location according to Obituary.

1846 to 1852 -- Came to America (unknown port), purchased land settling in DuPage Co., near Chicago, Illinois. These dates conflict on Census records and no Naturalization papers have been located as yet. We are still trying to acquire the Land Deed.

1857 -- Fred K. and wife Sophia moved with Frederick E. and family to Portland Prairie, Houston Co., Minnesota to farm, this date is estimated according to birth of first child on Census records.

1857 to 1858 -- Fred K. RUHE purchased 80 acres (40 acres being in Section 31 and 40 acres being Section 32) in and bordering the village of Eitzen, Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota. We do not have the Deed as yet but this purchase indicated on 1871 Twp. Map and a Historical Book.  These properties were used to farm sheep.

1858 -- May 11, Frederick RUHE sworn in as Constable for the town of Winnebago, Houston Co., Minnesota (Winnebago later changed to Eitzen) as indicated by a handwritten document signed by the Town Clerk and pages of a Historical Book.

1860 -- Census record indicates Fred K. and wife Sophia living on farm with son Frederick E. and family in Winnebago Twp., Portland Prairie, Houston Co., Minnesota. Records also indicate Ernest W. and wife Caroline are living a few farms houses away.  Also, records indicate Caroline's brother William Schafer and family are living near by.

1865 -- June, Minnesota State Census indicates Fred K. and wife Sophia living on farm with son Frederick E. and family in Winnebago Twp., Portland Prairie, Houston Co., Minnesota.

1865 -- May 8, Fred RUHE filed Deed to purchase 160 acres of land for the sum of $550 in Section 31 by Register of Deeds.

1866 -- Joined the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church Portland Prairie, Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota as indicated by Church records.

1870 -- Fred K. and wife Sophia can not be found on a Census Record.

1870 -- Fred RUHE builds a new house on the 160 acres of land in Section 31 on the North side of the property next to the Town-County Road.

1870 -- Fred K. and wife Sophia moved with Frederick E. and family to recently built house on the 160 acres of property West of the town of Eitzen, Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota. Earnest, Caroline and Family remain on farm adjacent to and East of Fred K. Property.

1871 -- Houston County Map indicates Fred RUHE owns 160 acres upon which he has built a house.  Other Historical Books indicate as much as 200 acres.

1871 -- December 31, Fred K. dies of old age as indicated by the County Register of Death, also indicated by Church records. Burial was in Portland Prairie, Winnebago Twp, Houston Co., Minnesota. Exact burial place is at present unknown.

1875 -- Unable to find Frederick E., mother, wife, and family on a Census report.

1876 -- March 31, Sophia Leonore RUHE dies of old age at home in Winnebago Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota according to County Register of Death. Burial was in Portland Prairie, Winnebago Twp, Houston Co., Minnesota.  Exact burial place is at present unknown.
