I have just come across your web page and was wondering if you had any
information on any Rorke's who emigrated to Africa in the early 1800's.
We have a family tree going back to my Great Grandfather Michael James
RORKE who was a pioneer settler of Zimbabwe (the Rhodesia) in 1891.
There are also several Rorke's in early South African history including
the owners of 'Rorke's Dift' - the site of a famous battle between the
British and the Zulu's.

E-mail: peewee@bconnex.netJohn and Susan (Tait) O'ROURKE -- Canadian.
These two are my great-grandparents. We know very little about
their origins and have no BDs. Family folklore has them from County
"Cork", son of the "Laird". Susan supposedly the chamber maid. Her
family name was "Tait". One son died in the WW1 and received a medal.
They settled in the "Toronto" area around the late l800's, I think!!!
I think there was other family members who immigrated with them or
later. One sister by the name of Ann.

I am looking for any information on my great-great grandfather, John W.
RUARK. I do not have his date of birth. I do know that he died in 1860,
He was married to Lucy Ann WAYNE in Linn County Kansas on Jan. 8, 1857.
They had 1 son, Temple W. and 1 daughter, Elizabeth F. After John's death
the probate court was contacted by an attorney on behalf of 2 other sons
from a previous marriage, William and Thomas Ruark. I have been
unsuccessful in gathering any other information than this. There are the
usual family stories, but even those are not consistant, so any help would
be greatly appreciated. Please contact me at jakebrak@midusa.net
