Generation One
1. Joseph¹ Scott was born on 16 April 1786 in Pennsylvania.¹ He moved from Pennsylvania sometime before 1820 and settled in Huntington Township, Brown County, Ohio where he was a farmer. He married first Jane (Unknown).¹ He married second Sarah Ann Payne on 15 November 1849 in Brown County, Ohio. Sarah Ann was the widow of Robert T. Scott.² Joseph and Sarah Ann Payne appeared on the census of 17 September 1850 in Brown county, Ohio. Living with Joseph were Sarah Ann, age 35 born in KY, Eliza Payne, age 9, born in OH, Eva Ann Elrod, age 18 born in OH, Rachel Elrod, age 10 born in IL, Ellen Scott, age 3 born in OH and Robert Scott, age 7/12 born in OH.³ Joseph Scott married third Catherine Fowler in Ohio.

Joseph Scott died on 16 August 1860 in Brown County at age 74.⁴ He was buried in the Scott Family Cemetery in Brown County. The Cemetery is located north of Ellsbury on the old Howard Farm.⁴ Jane (Unknown) was born in March 1785 in Ireland.¹ She died on 17 July 1849 in Brown County, Ohio, at age 64.¹ She was buried in the Scott Family Cemetery, Brown County, Ohio.¹ Known children of Joseph¹ Scott and Jane (Unknown) were as follows:

2 i. Eliza² Scott was born in November 1812.⁴ She married William Elrod. She died on 12 July 1846 at age 33.⁴ She was buried in the Scott Family Cemetery, Brown County, Ohio.⁵
3 ii. William C. Scott was born about 1813 in Pennsylvania.⁶ He married Charlotte J. Reeder on 11 August 1835 in Brown County, Ohio. He was a Merchant in Sprigg Twp., Adams County, Ohio.² He died before 1860. He did not appear on the 1860 census with Charlotte.
4 iii. Daniel Scott was born on 28 November 1813 in Pennsylvania.⁴ He married Jemima (Unknown). He was a farmer in Sprigg Twp. Adams County, Ohio. Daniel may have been in Sprigg Twp. earlier than 1846 but on that date in March he bought from John Lock a parcel of land along Big Three Mile Creek containing about 30 acres. He paid $300. Then on January 17, 1850, Daniel bought a parcel of land from his brother, W. C. Scott, containing about 32 acres and located along Big Three Mile Creek. He paid $725. In 1870, grand daughters Jemima Dryden, age 3, and her sister, Eliza, age 1 were living in Daniel's housedhold. In 1880 only Eliza was living with him. He died on 6 August 1897 in Brown County, Ohio, at age 83.⁴ He was buried in the Scott Family Cemetery in Brown County.⁴
5 iv. Joseph Scott was born on 27 August 1817 in Pennsylvania. He married Eliza J Lowe. He was a farmer in Sprigg Twp., Adams County, Ohio. In 1880, John Morgan, nephew, age 17 was living in his household. He died on 1 August 1894 in Ohio at age 76. He was buried in the Manchester Cemetery, West Union, Ohio.
6 v. Elizabeth Jane Scott was born on 25 August 1819 in Pennsylvania.⁴ She married William Shelton in Ohio. She died on 26 October 1891 in Ohio at age 72.⁴ She was buried in the Scott Family Cemetery, Brown County, Ohio.¹

7 vi. Andrew C. Scott was born on 7 October 1821 in Ohio.⁴ He married Sarah Ann Shelton on 14 October 1841 in Brown County, Ohio. He died on 21 January 1865 in Ohio at age 43.⁴ He was buried in the Scott Family Cemetery, Brown County, Ohio.¹
8 vii. James Scott was born about 1823 in Ohio. He married Mary Ann Stewart on 8 December 1844 in Brown County, Ohio. He was a farmer in Huntington Twp., Brown County, Ohio. On the 1850 Brown County census Mary J. Elrod, born in 1836 in Ohio, was living in James' household. Mary is Eliza and William Elrod's daughter.²
9 viii. Mary Ann Scott was born about 1826 in Brown County, Ohio. She married Hiram Stewart on 14 January 1847. She died on 28 October 1901 in Brown County.
10 ix. Moses J. Scott was born about 1829 in Brown County, Ohio.⁷ He married first Margaret Dodds on 9 April 1850.² He married second Julia Ann Morris on 12 August 1855 in Brown County, Ohio.² He died on 18 June 1878 in Huntington Township, Brown County, Ohio.⁸

There were no known children of Joseph¹ Scott and Sarah Ann Payne.

There were no known children of Joseph¹ Scott and Catherine Fowler.
