He was born as Nai Chim, and was raised to the rank and style of Somdet Phra Lukya Ther Chaofa Krom Luang Isarasundhorn in 1782 and further elevated to Krom Phrarajawang Bovorn Mah a Isarasundhorn (Krom Phrarajawang Bovorn Sathan Mongkol) in 1808, taking the reign name of Phrabat Somdet Phra Chao Yu Hua when he succeeded to the throne, he was renamed posthumously as Phra Bat Somdet Phra Poramenthramaha Isarasun dhorn Phra Buddha Loetla Nabhalai or HM King Buddha Loetla Nabhalai; he was appointed to the Front Palace as Vice King or Uparaja in 1807; his reign saw the reconstruction of Siamese culture and royal traditions and the fields of arts and lite rature became prominent, and though largely uneventful, his reign also saw increasing contact with Western powers;
