1st Prince Kaya-no-Miya [cr. 17.12.1892]
Originally titled Iwa-no-miya, he was called Iwaomaro-o from 15th March 1874, and unlike his brothers, he did not pursue a military career. He changed his personal name to Kuninori on 21st July 1886, and the following year he was excluded from suc ceeding to the house of Kuni-no-miya on the grounds of ill health on 7th March 1887; however the Emperor, granted him the title of Kaya-no-miya as a personal distinction, and the rank of shinno on 17th December 1892. Later, on 4th May 1900, he wa s authorized him to form a new collateral branch of the imperial family. He succeeded his father as supreme priest (saishu) of the Shinto Grand Shrine of Ise and served in that post until his death.
