From the leading chiefly Tui Kaba clan of Kubuna, he was educated at Queen Victoria School, Fiji then at Newington College, Australia and Wanganui Technical College, Wanganui, N.Z.; Member of the Great Council of Chiefs 1938/1972; he served wit h the Fiji Military Forces in World War II, with the rank of Captain; Member of the Legislative Council 1951/1973 (later the House of Representatives from 1970); Minister for Fijian Affairs and Local Government 1970/1971 and subsequently as a mini ster without portfolio 1971/1972; he retired from office in 1983.
