Count Guillaume de Chartres suffered from imbecility "deficient in intelligence as well as a degenerate" and was violent only in words. He was disinherited and became merely Sire de Sully.

Orderic Vitalis lists guillaume first in the order of sons. He stated that his father-in-law was Gilo de Sully. He called him a "good and peaceful man blessed with children and wealth".
