Pagan's surname was Peverell. He was one of King Henry's and England's nobles and distinguished Norman knight.

According to the biography of Robert Curthose by C.W. David, Pagan Peverel served in the First Crusade as standard-bearer for Robert. For his service, King Henry I of England granted to him the barony of Barnwell priory in England.

The Liber Memorandum states that the youngest Peverel brother, Pagan, followed a military career. He was a member of the king's household and was an outstanding soldier. In warfare, he is noted as being praiseworthy above all the nobles of the kingdom. He became the standardbearer for Robert of Normandy in the Holy Land 1096-1100. When he returned he must have found favour with Henry I. He witenessed a charter in Jan 1103 and was granted the manor of Shefford in the county of Berkshire in 1105. He continues to witness charter through 1129. Pagan's daughter, Matilda married in 1129 and was granted the manor of Shefhord.

Henry confiscated the land, 'barony of Burnne' from Robert son of Picot because he conspired against his life. He gave it to Pagan before 1110. This act brought Pagan into with the abbey of Ramsey.
