Clodius (Clodio) was known as 'The Long-Haired' or 'The Hairy'. He was from the Merovingian Dynasty and was king of the Salian Franks from 426 to 447. His father, Duke Pharamond, and his mother, Argotta, were from Thuringia. Marcomer who was a duke of the Franks most likely was his grandfather.

King Clodio lived in Dispargum which was probably the name of a castle instead of a village.

Clodio invaded the territory of Artois about 431. Aetius, the commander of the Roman army in Gaul (France - Western Roman Empire) defeated Clodio near Hesdin. Clodio then regrouped and seized Cameracum. He then occupied all the country to the Somme River. He made Tornai the capital of the Salian Franks.

Because of Clodio's aggression, his successors continued to expand and created the country that we know as France.

Clodio died about 447 and his son, Merovaeus was his successor.

Clodio's history can be found in 'The writings of Gregory of Tours' and 'Sinonius Apollinaris.
