Pharamond is noted as the first king of the Salian Franks. However, it is possible that he was a legendary figure rather than a historical one.

He was a son or son-in-law of Marcomer.

Prosper Tyron and Dom Bouquet, Historians of the later century, give this report concerning his reign: "In 420, he reportedly led his people in crossing the Rhine River and headed west. This movement would effectively separate his tribe from the majority of the Rhine Franks that had settled near Cologne."

Pharamond's son, Clodio 'Clodius' succeeded him as King of the Salian Franks.

From Pharamond, king of the Franks, came a princely line of rulers who intermarried with Austrian royalty. This line is preserved in the "Historia de Xerez" by Gutierrez
