Egbert succeeded his father Earconbert as King of Kent after his death.
He ruled from 664 to 673. It is very possible that he was still a child when he became
king since his mother Saxburga was recorded as 'regent'.

He had his cousins Aethelred and Aethelbert killed. They were sons of his uncle Earmenred.

Charter records show that he patronized the monastery of Chertsey.

Egbert's brother Hlothere succeeded him as King of Kent and then was followed,
by Egbert's son Eadric and then his other son Wihtred.
