Earconbert succeeded his father Eadbald as King of Kent from 640 to 664.

Earconbert was the first king in Britain to command the destruction of pagan idols. He commanded that Lent be observed. After the death of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Earconbert appointed Deusdedit in 655. He was the first Saxon archbishop.

Saxburg, daughter of King Anna of East Anglia, became the wife of Earconbert. Earcongota, their daughter became a nun at the abbey of Faremoutiers-en-Brie.

Earconbert died 14 Jul 664 and he was succeeded by his son Egbert (Ecgberht).
