Sigebert I was a Frankish King. He was a son of Clotaire I and Ingund. When Clotaire I died in 561 he divided his kingdom among his four sons. This was the Frankish custom.

Sigebert received the northeastern portion and became king of Austrasia. When his brother Charibert died in 567 or 568 he added more territory to his kingdom.

The Avars and Huns attacked him twice but were defeated.

He was successful in a civil war against his half brother, Chilperic I and conquered most of his kingdom. Sigebert had sought revenge on Chilperic for murdering his wife Galswintha in order to marry Fredegund.

Chilperic his in Tournai. Sigebert had just been declared king by Chilperic's subjects at Vitry when he was struck down by two assassins working for Chilperic's wife, Fredegund.
