Theudebert II was the son and heir of Childebert II. He was King of Austrasia when he was only 9 years of age. He reigned until his death in 612.

Theudebert's grandmother Brunhilda dominated his kingdom because of his minority age. He succeeded in driving her away in 599. He and his brother Theuderic II fought against Neustria and defeated Clotaire II which gave him a large portion of land.

The brothers fought against each other and Theudebert II was defeated at Toul and at Tolbiac in 612. His grandmother Brunhilda (Brunehaut) ordered him locked up in a monastery. He and his son Merovee were then assassinated.
