Ine was King of Wessex from 688 to 726.
He succeeded to the throne after the abdication of Caedwalla.
His father was still alive during the early years of his reign.
King Ine issued a written code of laws in 694.
He was the second Anglo-Saxon king to do so.
This written code changed the nature of administration in Wessex
and it began the centralization of the kingdom which had been composed
of sub-kingdoms.

He abdicated the throne in 726 and went to Rome where he died.
He had no heir.
